Rick and Sue pulled up, in the parking bay at hand

They could hear something was rattling on their well worn caravan

When they got out and perused it, their worst fears were the truth

Bits were flying off old 'Mabels' weathered, tattered roof.

'She's absolutely buggered mum'.... was Rick's sad news to Sue

' The structures bent and broken, there's not much we can do'

'There's a roadhouse kinda motel thing just up here by the creek'

'Dunno if I can fix this, we might be here a week'.

They rolled into the roadhouse as rain began to fall

The caravan wasn't waterproof, it wasn't adequate at all

'We'll have to get a room Rick, that's all there is about it'

'We could both sleep in the car I 'spose, but actually I doubt it'.

They walked up to the counter and explained their situation

The 'girl' behind the counter didn't ooze co operation

She was hardened bit of goods, looked like she'd had it tough

And if these folks got a bed or not....she couldn't give a stuff.

'There's the cabin down the back there, the only beds we have to spare'

'I suggest you snap it up,it's up to you though, i dont care

'It's a little on the rough side, see if it's ok for your health'

'You can take it, you can leave it, but you wont find nothin' else'

It was not the warmest welcome ,not even slightly nice

To a place that carried the grandiose name of 'Desert Paradise'

They went and checked the room then, it was bloody rough alright

Rick said to Sue 'we'll make it do, if only for tonight.'

They went into the roadhouse then ,paid up and had a snack.

It had been a long hard day, they were ready for the sack

Sue sat on the bed there, dreaming of her Sydney house

When she noticed staring from the floor was a very large grey mouse.

'Oh my God'! screamed Sue....'Ricky come here quick'

'There's a vicious giant rat thing here, grab a great big stick.'

Ricky rushed into the room to protect his precious Sue

But the mouse just kind of vanished , as mice are prone to do.

They would not be putting up with this, they'd demand something be done

Get someone from the office to come down with a gun

Sue pulled on her tracksuit , she'd sort this matter out.

Ricky thought he'd better go with her and make sure she didn't shout.

The hard nut in the office....turns out her name was Jess

Didn't even raise her head....she couldn't have cared less

When Sue rushed in and told her of the mouse loose in their room

She rolled a smoke and told Sue...' ya shoulda whacked it with a broom.'

'But really missus let me tell you ,as crazy as it sounds

Be glad to see the mouse there, it means the brown snake aint around.'

Sue's mouth just dropped open...a mouse and now a snake??!!

She wasn't sure how much of this a Sydney girl could take

'Yeah .....cos if the brown snake's there, you can pretty safely bet

The big goanna won't be far away, if he hasn't got there yet'

If the snake and the big goanna get into a fight

It stirs the bullants up for the porcupine, and he'll be there all night.

'But don't you worry darlin, all is by no means lost

Just bang your elbow on the wall and stir up the orange wasps

Everything is scared of them, they buzz ,they crawl, they creep

They'll keep everything away, you'll get a good nights sleep.'

Sue was now beside herself, whispered 'I dont wanna stay'

'Rick just get me out of here'....that's all she had to say

Ricky put his arm around her, she was quivering with fright

He knew they couldn't stay there, not even for a night.

'The worst thing is', said hard faced Jess, ' with our proximity to the creek'

'Old 'Salty Croc' goes walkabout at least one night a week'

'That's it' said Ricky fiercely ,' We want our money back!'

'No refunds here now sweety....if you're leaving... hit the track'.

Rick and Sue looked at each other...for sure enoughs enough

They couldn't endure a whole night of this crazy scary stuff.

Although their van might fall apart, it seemed a smart idea

To move along, not spend the night engulfed in sweating fear.

As their tail lights slowly vanished ...up the highway in the night

Jess was calling to her son,who wasn't all that bright.

'I'm gunna book this room again....it's the best one in the house.

I'll put up the vacancy sign.....you wind up the mouse.!'
