We touched on the subject of Yellowstone in another thread a few days ago, Just happened on this interesting video highlighting the dangers in the park, a bit ghoulish but interesting nonetheless.

Evening Doug, I agree to a point, fortunately the US doesn't subscribe to the same nanny state mentality that we Aussie's do.

Actually When travelling in USA we have found that the lack of security fencing, etc makes you appropriately aware of the Dangers - take Grand Canyon for instance where the walking trails have no fencing. When the Rangers paint rocks white in National Parks their citizens know that is the boundary of safe travel - proceed past them at your own peril - It seems to work over there.

 You are,of course,quite right,Possum.When will people start taking responsibility for their own decisions and actions? Places like Mesa Verde, Nordkapp and the enormous cliffs in Arizona,near Monument Valley,have no "safety" barriers. You make your own decisions,although waking to find the car surrounded by Indian Braves on horseback was something different! They seemed not to speak a word of English,but we sorted it all out with sign language,and without an arrow being fired.At the Grand Canyon the guide explained that they always  paired horses with riders.The people who had never ridden a horse were given a horse that had never been ridden!
