To put a finer point on it. Nothing sends a message like a head on a spike!
My niece in her early 20s has recently had her first AZ, she is over it with the lockdowns.
On the other hand I have a nephew in Germany with very young children who says he & wife will not get vaccinated.

If I remember correctly
Early on when Covid-19 first started, some people (including some world leaders), assumed that it only killed the older folk
Sad to see the younger people affected, and hope that we can get on top of it, with eventually elimination of the virus

Friend (60+) in Brisbane had her AZ booked for Monday afternoon. SMS Monday morning saying have rebooked for Friday as they have run out of AZ. Husband.... ring around to get a closer booking.... first call 2 weeks out, 2nd call a week out, so its Friday for the 1st Vac.
The Lockdown has made AZ more popular.

Peter, you are probably very close to being correct and this coupled with the Qld Health Minister (and some others) now saying to get the second jab of AZ earlier that the twelve weeks period is causing a shortage of supply at ground level.
It is just adding to the shambles of the roll out.

We chased around for a few weeks but finally got our first jab of the Astra Zeneca at the Uni of Newcastle on Wednesday. The vacination roll out for the over 60s in this area has been an absolute debacle with authorised GPs only accepting their existing patients, the state govt's. much hyped vacination hub at Belmont refusing to do AZ shots, the few places that were accepting new patients having long waiting lists and requiring a medical report from your usual GP. It took us more than hour to get through the peak hour traffic and we ended up getting lost on the campus due to a lack of signs but eventually we found the right building and were in and out in under 40mins. I had a slight headache yesterday and we both still have sore arm muscles but at least we can now count down the 12 weeks until we get our second jab.
Apparently some idiots from western Sydney spread the virus to Newcastle and the Hunter at a beach party on Blacksmiths Beach last Friday night so we have been placed in a 7 day snap lockdown. I wonder if Gladys will give us back the vaccine she redirected away from front line workers and vulnerable people in order to give it to school kids in Sydney now that we have it up here. You think people in this region are angry with the way that the state government has handled this current outbreak ....you bet we are .
