So here we are once again in lockdown. Toilet rolls going off the shelves at a great rate of knots. So I ask myself why is this? Is it some sort of infatuation with the alimentary canal? or is it some morbid fear of undies with skid marks?
Now I would be the first to admit that ones rear end plays a very important part of our lives because if this body part should cease to function one day, the result would be horrendous to say the least. (ask anyone who has been constipated for more than four days) There are many alternatives one could use, a couple of handfuls of grass, tissues, or, using an adaptation of the French model, the garden hose, being very careful not to turn the tap on too far as this could result in damage to the sphicnter which is definately not recommended if you want have continued use of it.
Having established that there are alternatives I ask why the panic buying? and invite others on the forum to put their views.

Ok, I think that when people are confined inside with a computer they turn into keyboard warriors and need all that toilet paper to wipe their mouths.

Ha ,you have the toilet roll escapade over there too eh ,Here in NZ it quickly passed and digressed to pasta ,rice and flour .Why oh why do people think they`re gonna turn into bl----y bakers overnight .It took months before we could buy flour again (i`ve baked bread weekly for the last several years)and was severely pi----d off . You can just imagine the amount of product being wasted as those responsible have probably only ever boiled an egg .

Even during lockdown people are allowed to supermarkets and stores to buy provisions, so why do they have to rush and buy months worth of stock just before the lockdown starts??
They would be better rushing to vaccinations when lockdowns weren't in place.

What I hate, is when they limit the amount of food you can buy per shop visit. We only go to town for shopping once per 14 days, and get limited to 2 of this and 2 of that, when you explain you live out in the bush, and only can get to town once per 2 weeks, the management say - TOUGH LUCK. We have solved that problem now by bulk buying in the good times, including those foods that last 10-25 years. The only problem though, is it is a daily running battle to keep the mice away from the food at the moment. But the milk and butter are the hard ones to do with out when you cannot buy enough during restrictions to last more than 3 days.

Surely you would have a freezer to put perishables in... Milk and butter freeze well.

Diko1 I like your idea of stuffing several litres of milk in the freezer. The two of us go through 8 litres of milk a week. So your suggestion would be to find room for 16 litres of milk in your freezer. Sounds so easy hey!

We use powdered milk when traveling, our issue is too smaller fridge due to space limitations & we live out of a car. If you are not accustomed to powdered milk, give it about a week & you will be ok.
Coffee beans is our real issue, but we have always managed not to keep them too long, & replenish stock. Even got our favourite coffee beans from David Jones in Perth.
Toilet paper, I have tucked half sizes rolls if the space limitations requires it around the car so there is plenty of emergency supplies. We have never run out. I even have 3 small rolls behind a trim panel. It's light weight so you can't have too much.

Years down the track, someone buys a second hand land rover, removes a panel to get to some wiring, discovers toilet paper. WTF, toilet paper bootleggers from the 20s.
