You think you had a win? With only 2 months out of warranty you would be covered by the Australian Governments consumer guarantees, as such you would be covered fully.

We broke our new fridge door 12 months after buying our camper. We broke it. Not a fault. Domestic asked no questions. They simply replaced the door at their HQ.. We had issues with winter mode. Domestic answered our questions along with technical information that wasn't in the fridge manual via email. Top points from us for Dometic.

bgt I can give you the American spell checker that came with my samsung S20+ mobile, it will change words at random and thinks all aussie suburbs should be spelt like theirs.

In your original post you say the A/C was 2 months out of warranty, but now it's 3 years?

The warranty period was 3 years, it was purchased mid Feb 2018, problem occured mid Apr 2021, therefore warranty is expired, IMHO Dometic has no obligation to provide any support but on this occasion they were happy to provide replacement part FOC.

You still have consumer guarantees for a time period after the warranty runs out. I've have had 2 successful claims one an iphone with 6 weeks out of warranty, contacted supplier and was told bad luck by salesperson, emailed business head office suggesting a refund under consumer law and got an apology & refund. Similar thing with new LED smart tv apology from Samsung and asked me to let them know if I have further problems with supplier and if so they would step in, 10 weeks out of warranty period. I mention consumer law both times & both times it came through.
Read the second paragraph in this link, there is an official law wording somewhere can't find it at the moment.
Once you read it ring ACCC and tell them you circumstances if you decide the money is better in your pocket as the labour expenses are going to be paid by you at this moment. The ACCC are very approachable and go out of their way to help.

Our Aircommand roof top a/c is 16 years old and still going well, with no issues, to me I would expect 5 years at least trouble free, otherwise its a fix at the manufacturer/Importers cost.
