Poor pretreatment and etch priming causes that. Could be just related to the particular batch of powdercoat at the time. Saw this sort of stuff with aluminium windows and would not use small scale powdercoaters as most did not have the wherewithal to regularly get their etch tanks checked by a chemist.

Yes I agree.
Lets hope a company like Clearview will get on top of this.
These mirrors aren't cheap.

The driver side base was replaced by Clearview.

Hi Bill,
sorry for the delay in responding.
my Clearview Mirrors were about 4 years old.
but the powder coating had been bubbling & lifting for about a year before I claimed.
i found Clearview a bit slow in getting back to your calls & emails.
BUT they did come to the party & supplied the driver side mirror base arm.
then a month later I claimed for the bubbling passenger side base arm.
They supplied the parts but I had to do the fitting.
Clearveiw did state that they had a problem with a batch of powder coating.
so if you mirrors are like mine, you should be able to claim.

When powder coated steel gets messed up, it's often because it wasn't prepped and primed right. Sometimes it's just because the batch of powder coating wasn't good. I've seen this happen with aluminum windows before. That's why I wouldn't trust small powder coating places. They usually don't have someone checking their stuff regularly to make sure it's all good.
LOOKS LIKE THE BLACK POWDER COATING IS NOT ADHERING TO THE METAL BASE.
