poptop roof moves forward or backward instead of raising vertically

Hi. Just replaced the roof skirt on my 16' poptop. When I raise and lower the roof it moves forward or backward putting stress on the skirt material. I know it has to be something to do with the gas lifters but was wondering if somebody else has had this problem and could give advice on the right way to setup the struts.
