After the war, the working class realised how they had been used as cannon fodder by the ruling elites who exclusively made up the officer class. That's why Churchill et al got the boot. It was the time of national health, communism, poverty. Major industries were nationalised and the welfare state was born.

Whilst its easy to write this off as a bit of a laugh, but in their bullet points there is nothing that could be challenged as being incorrect.
Many business were destroyed because of the society shutdown, the workers in some instances received job keeper but many didnt !
So how do you explain the fairness when a small business in rural Australia, where there was no reported cases of Covid in the region, had to cease trading, throw all his perishable good in the bin, lay off any staff had and watched his business go down the drain. And then when their area was opened up again only to encounter another draconian closure and trhe process was repeated. Many small businesses received zero economic support.
So if you lived in Roma or any other rural town that never had a case of covid, and they suffered economic losses why shouldnt they be able to sue the government for compensation?
Using the guise of protecting the community is a shoddy excuse.

Agreed Gundog but which government do you sue? Federals never promoted shutdowns. So is it state premiers? If so is it the state premier in your state or the other state that shutdown and destroyed your business? What about the stuff up in Vic? Who will take that responsibility?
IMHO it was every state premier that needs to be held accountable. Yes even NSW because they started the whole dam mess with the Ruby Princes. That one stuff up gave all the other premiers the excuse they needed.
Politicians and public servants have been proven to be incapable of finding solutions. Shutting down the whole state was the easy option. Folks in Mt Isa etc, really need to ask hard questions as to why they had to suffer because of someones stuff up far far away in a city.
But nothing will happen.

Why? Sounds like floods are perfectly acceptable. Why haven't they prepared for this after the last time ? Even the not so bad floods cause devastation. Who allowed people to build in the path of the water? My thoughts are councils.

Poor planning and greed.
The infrastructure has been extended but not improved to take the extra runoff due to urbanisation and climate change has extreme rainfall events as the climate scientists predicted. The federal government is doing very little about climate change and the councils are pressured by developers to accept maximum profits rather than adequate flood areas and storm water infrastructure. The developers don't care if the houses they build flood later on as long as they get the maximum profit from their minimum investment.
In conclusion, blame the federal and local governments and the developers.

I'm wondering why Warragamba Dam was allowed to reach near maximum capacity. I thought that's the reason that the Brisbane floods were so devastating years ago.

Don't worry the premier will hand out wads of cash but no real solution. From looking at the pictures, it only appears to be those old houses that have been there for a lot of years. Thats OK it will just give the developers a chance to build nice big developments, its gets rid of our heritage, and have a nice big cleanout.

Hang on folks. I thought climate change meant there would be no more rain to fill the dams. Tim Flannery said so. When they say a dam is at 100% it still has capacity. There is always a margin for them to start releasing water.

Of course some dams are built for water retention for the purpose of supplying water reticulation to communities, for irrigation or for flood mitigation.
Some may, perhaps by accident, been built in the right place despite the protestations of all the ginger groups.
Some are built for both storage and flood mitigation & have a stated 100% capacity for water storage & an additional capacity for flood mitigation. I suppose that the art/science of managing a dam is to balance these competing these competing demands while the arm chair experts sit on the sidelines & make pronouncements biased by the headlines of the day.
We in SEQ have recently seen how well the courts handle this complex situation LOL. (Save us from Engineers, Lawyers, Arm chair experts and self interested parties including Polies. !!! ...LOL)

According to the NSW Water Minister, Warragamba is not a flood mitigation dam, its Sydneys main water supply, is controlled by very complex legislated rules. The Minister also reinterated that because of last years bush fires around the majority of Warragamba a lot of pollentants and ash have entered the storage, this one in sixty year rain event even if the dam had been lowered to 25% to allow for the rain event, and then if the rains had missed the Warragamba catchment what then.

It's a tough call. I felt sorry for the engineers who copped the blame for the Brisbane disaster. I wouldn't want to be saddled with that responsibility.
As for the climate change deniers, it has always been said that climate change will be accompanied by more frequent extreme weather events.
