Covid 19 has been with us for around 12 odd months, in hindsight has all the hoopla been a big scare campain or overeaction.
When you crunch the numbers it makes the Governments decision making a bit skewed, when you condider 28900 people or 0.12% of the population contracted the virus and 909 people or 0.0036 passsed away from it or a contributing factor.
Or do you consider measures were right.

When you look at the figures, without the emotion, there's a story to be told. Most of Australia's deaths come from 2 stuff ups. Ruby Princess and the Vic hotel stuff up. So roughly all but 80 of Australia's deaths come those 2 events. Then look at the 8o deaths. The vast majority of those deaths come from aged care facilities. Again with breaches in the covid plans. So what does that leave? It means that the population of 25 million have been 'shut down' because of 'covid security' stuff ups.
It seems the various authorities in Australia, regardless of the political party, haven't been able to organize much more than a chook raffle. They used a scare campaign to influence a political goal. They told us repeatedly how dangerous covid was/is. Yet they avoided telling us that 99% of covid cases weren't a real health threat.
Covid is/was real. It was dangerous. But not to 98% of the population. So are those 98% happy to be controlled because the authorities couldn't protect the 2%.
History will decide. So may the voters at the next election. But IMHO the response was way out of proportion to the threat. From day one they knew who was vulnerable. Yet they impossed restrictions on everyone rather than putting a greater effort into protecting the vulnerable. My fear now it that many folks think the vaccine is the silver bullet. The vaccine won't stop the spread. It just protects you from the worst of the symptoms. So will lock downs continue while covid still spreads or will lock downs end when ??????
When there is a run on toilet rolls every time a premier mentions lock downs I querry the ability of much of the population to think logically.
And FWIW I'm in the vulnerable group and have already been told by my specialist to get the vaccine asap.

Just a few days ago I was at Warringah Mall shopping centre in Sydney. Got chatting with someone over which are the best pickled cucumbers.
It turned out the person was in ICU with Covid for 3 weeks, 6 months ago.
His wife didn't get it.
P.S. Both of us agreed that Krakus cucumbers are the best!

Over our lives we have both had all the vaccines that were on offer.
We have had all the vaccines to travel for all the various countries requirements.
We have had tetanus & both have had boosters etc.
I have a niece who has had the Gardasil vaccine.
We will have whatever vaccine is on offer. Other half does have allergies & has had a serious anaphylactic shock & will let the doctor know when she has the Covid vaccine.
We have relatives in Europe & England we want to see again.

My opinion is that all things considered
Australia has taken the correct road, to beat the un-seen/un-heard/un-smelled enemy of mankind, which had been named Covid-19
Our economy is in a better place, than many other countries, of the world
Some other countries who, for whatever reasons, had decided that it was to be business as usual, was one of the main (if not the main) reason for the virus mutating.
Some countries gambled, that a vaccine would be found, in time I hate to think what would be happening now, if we had not managed to make a vaccine
We did have certain people in Australia, pushing their own wheel barrows, for their own reasons I do recall a private citizen trying to crack open the West Australian, hard border I also recall the Australian leader of the day, assisting him

Covid needs to be put into perspective. Some will argue that too much was done while others say not enough was done. No worries from me if folks have different views on the subject. Just respect others can have a differing view.
But what about malaria? It kills almost half a million folks every year. That's every year. Where's the global reaction to that? Or is it that malaria doesn't affect 1st world countries like covid has?
Or is it that the big companies can make a zillion dollars on a covid vaccine for countries who will pay for a vaccine. Poorer countries with a malaria problem have no money to pay for a vaccine.
Perspective? Over reaction?

One thing I like to know , does a 50KG person gets the same amount of vaccine pumped in their arm as a 100KG person ?
I take my dog to the vet and he gets put on the scales , the vet makes sure that he dose not overdose the dog.
bgt , we still have AIDs , for how many years , 35 plus ? no vaccine , covid over a year , and science managed to get a vaccine in a year ,cheers

I think both state and federal governments have done what they though was best - could they have done better? Who knows....

The way I see it its not really the lock downs or masks or social distancing. It's the inconsistency that is getting up folks noses. When you can't get an agreement on what is a 'hot spot' what hope is there? When the AFL could pack their bags and move to Queensland, Queenslander's scratch their heads. When tennis players in Melbourne are classified as essential works then folks get really pee'd off. While a tennis tournament in Swan Hill was closed down. And movie stars get preferential treatment because they 'bring money into the state'. When a state leader and all his ministers have amnesia. It wears very thin.
The upside that I see is that 'most' folks are now aware of social distancing. We wash our hands more. Masks are now 'accepted'.
Just give us reasonable rules and stick to them.

There is a lot of emotion associated with this virus. IT CAN KILL YOU - very easily. Even if it doesn't kill you, it will tie up a lot of valuable medical resources of people and equipment looking after you should you get the virus. As yet, we don't know the long-term effects of contracting the virus and surviving it. There could be debilitating side effects which may last for years.
A lot of people are bitching about lockdowns etc. Yes - it is a real nuisance to be locked down, but would you rather this or have your neighbour walk past your house and infect you? If he/she walked past with a loaded shotgun in the street, you would certainly be worried. This is worse, because at least you can see the shotgun - you cannot see the virus...

Good job - decisions made upset a minority, I live in Victoria. Dans' popularity amongst the silent majority is very good
Although I will say, the Federals borders should have been slammed shut in February and we wouldn't be having he issues we currently are - also, WHY souls you put infected people/quarantined people in the middle of capital cities

No consolation to the 909 people who died but these figures reflect the excellent job Australia has done in controlling the virus.
Is this good or bad? Hidden? yesterday. That the government can pass a law that has such a public impact is a worry. Is the govt. so committed to getting the old and vulnerable vaccinated because they will impact on their approval rating. They cannot afford to have any more die. At least by getting them vaccinated they are seen as they have tried. Spin.

I'm someone who chose to live here rather than being born here - I have travelled and lived around this world extensively and yet I chose Australia as the country in which to spend the second half of my life and, no doubt, I shall die here. So, you may guess, I do not agree at all with your statement.
Australia is not perfect but it is one hell of a lot better place to live than any other country I have visited and, without doubt, the best country in the world in which to raise children.
I'm sure the travel bans will be lifted before long and you'll be free to leave and live where ever else you are able and that will be best for all concerned.

As for me, I have lived in several countries and my impression is that Australians have a lot to learn about other societies. I can list lots of problems with this country, and there are aspects of it which I despise. In my view Australia may be the "least worst" option, but I wouldn't dignify it by calling it the best. I prefer to think of myself as a world citizen, without nationalistic biases. If more people thought that way, there would be a lot less conflict. If you've never travelled, then at least read the news services from other countries, especially those stories which pertain to Australia. That should give you a more objective perspective.

In 2019 we had 934 deaths related to flu.

I'm someone who chose to live here rather than being born here - I have travelled and lived around this world extensively and yet I chose Australia as the country in which to spend the second half of my life and, no doubt, I shall die here. So, you may guess, I do not agree at all with your statement.
Australia is not perfect but it is one hell of a lot better place to live than any other country I have visited and, without doubt, the best country in the world in which to raise children.
I'm sure the travel bans will be lifted before long and you'll be free to leave and live where ever else you are able and that will be best for all concerned.
