New joiner. Plenty of tent camping experience, some experience towing boats. No experience of the GN life or vehicles.
Aiming on hitting the road after the last kid finishes year 12 next year.
We are currently thinking about a motor home, but we switch between that and a 5th wheeler every couple of hours! Caravan is currently not on the list.
Right now we don't know what we don't know, but I'm hoping that I can absorb enough knowledge from forums like this to be able to make a reasonable decision when the time comes about the end of next year.

Welcome to the gang Ro, enjoy here and out in the playground.
The very first thing I looked at 9 years ago was a fifth wheeler but decided too big for just me. It's what my late wife and I talked about but when I lost her thought it a good place to start. I ended up getting a Avan Camper. True, don't laugh. It was great for my part time travels but when I sold base camp I wanted my own shower and toilet as I would be living and travelling full time. I then got what is in my signature below. Very happy.
I have met many in motorhomes and caravans that are full time and all love what they have. So no rights or wrongs.

Welcome to GN's Ro,
Take a look at some of the free downloads on www.caravancouncil.com.au/ There is alot of technical and practical advise on their site.

5ers don't have to be big. They all offer safer, more stable towing.
Better not to tow at all unless you want to take a decent boat sometimes. No way of taking a decent boat with a caravan.
I'm gradually getting to know the TLAs (Three Letter Acronyms like GCM, GVM, ATM etc ) that I need to understand for safe and comfortable (and legal) travelling.
Still got lots to learn. Thankfully, I'm starting early enough to get plenty of info from plenty of places before I need to decide what I'm doing.
Thanks again
Happy Days

A warm welcome from me also, Roualyn
Hope you find what you are looking for, and that there are many happy road trips ahead of you both, after your children have grown
