Did anyone see ACA last night with the story on how China owns or leases several islands in the Whitsunday group.
This is disgusting and our collective governments should be ashamed at their constant need to sell off our country.
Darwin Port, Farms in SA, large holdings of land in prime resort areas all over Australia and the list goes on.

Australia will suffer some short term pain but we can find other markets for our commodities.

The problem with Chinese ownership is we have to treat all foreign ownership the same. Otherwise we are no better than them. Or do we give them the middle figure and suffer the consequences?

"Chinese ownership" essentially means ownership by the Chinese government, so that requires a different set of rules.

We need to stand up very strongly against China - their government is a tyrannical and purely self serving regime. This may cost us financially but so be it - I do not wish my country to be controlled or dictated to by China because we seek to beg some trade from them. I say they can go ***k themselves - and I emailed my sentiments to the PM yesterday, albeit in cooler language.
Remember Tiananmen Square where they drove tanks over the bodies of the half alive?
Interestingly the last time I posted anything negative of China on this forum I was vilified as a racist and my post deleted.

What I don't understand is why the western world chose China as their source of cheap labour. Why not India? They have the advantage of the English language, plus they have a strong IT sector. Once the population rescues itself from poverty, they will become just as big a market for Australian agriculture as China. The even bigger upside is that they have the potential to become a serious, nuclear armed, geopolitical force right next door to our political adversary.

This has been brewing for sometime. China is setting everyone up with their supply chain. For instance they don't have to meet the Paris agreement for sometime but everyone else does. As everyone turns to green energy China pollutes making the wind towers and solar panels that we need to meet the Paris agreement. There are many more examples such as their influence over the WHO. It is about control. They have been working on it for years. And we, along with almost every other country, got sucked in.
I fear the consequences. But the PM has my support to give them the middle finger. Yes we will feel the pain for sometime. The Gov threw billions at the covid problem. Well what's a few more billion supporting exporters while the Gov helps to find other markets. I'm prepared to do it tough in the name of the next generation of Australians.
I feel sorry for the Australian/Chinese. I wonder how they fell. But at sometime you have to stand up to the school yard bully.

I think do not respond as the Australian Government is on a Hiding to Nothing.
Too late now, as population we have sat back and talked to one another about relying too heavily on Chinese Trade and a thousand other things but never have we United as a Population about most serious things, just said, "Somebody should do something about it", whatever the subject.
Sadly most of our Politicians are there to do the best to ensure they are able to convince the voters to send them back into Parliament so they can get enough for themselves and a FAT Pension at the end of the day.

There are things that we can do, without rocking the boat. For instance build smaller houses, I have been in huge homes, that contained nothing but bare essentials, cause the owners are mortgaged to the hilt. The kids don't all need to have queen sized beds, or TV's in every room. If we spend less, we are less committed, we could then afford to go out and buy quality. We just need to look back on ourselves and simplify our lives, less commitment to banks and not so vulnerable to the economic situation. We also need to change our work ethics, and be more committed, and above all buy Australian where possible.

There are a lot of Chinese living in Australia who are probably pretty p_ssed off by their politicians overseas, but they will never say anything. We have no issues working with these Chinese. It is the other few who are wasting oxygen.

a few years ago it was the Japanese that we were complaining about . they were buying up properties the politicians were saying, what is the problem they can't take it away with them. they use to have shops here set up for their tourists to use.(no local people involved) the Chinese are slowly moving into our country and by the time we wake up it will be to late they are buying up the the infrastructure they require to basically move in might be a few island now but they have the north of WA tied up, the pacific island are in a similar situation with the Chinese pumping money into them

to me china is like an ants nest all controlled from the center for the benefit of the center. india is like a coral reef all joined together but not connected as one unit.
look what happened with the adani coal mine(india) the problems with getting that going seems a bit different to the iron ore that is been taken out of WA . Fortescue metal group has one customer CHINA they need the ore no problems they get it ,our steel industry is all but finished along with most of our manufacturing, the day they turn the tap off we are in trouble . maybe corona virus was a wake up call ,went to kmart a while back, selves where nearly empty waiting on restock from CHINA .
seem to be a waiting list (new car ,caravan ect) if you want to order anything the list is getting longer note: i realise coal is different to iron ore but you need coal to make steel (and power)

Here is another example of Chinese domination in yet another part of beautiful Queensland. The island is Keswick Is just of the coast of Mackay.
Can you imagine giving a lease to a chinese company particularly after what happened to the control of Darwin Harbour.
Got me stu$$ed why these sort of deals are allowed.

Just the same here in NZ. The chinese play the long game . Firstly they buy what you produce ,slowly increasing this until the firms are allmost solely reliant on there buying power .in this case our milk in powder form . Pay top dollar for a while .NZ producers think this is great ,easy money ,never gonna stop .Massive amounts of land is turned over to dairy farming,needing an allarming amount of water to irrigate the grass ,aquifers are in danger ,rivers running dry and polluted by the `**** n piss` that flows into them . But it does slow and they intensionally diminish the prices ,farmers feel the pinch . Some go bankrupt or get offered easy cash to sell .Chinese then step in and buy the farms at rock bottom cost . Our government think great ,they saved all those jobs .?? yeh right Chinese then own thousands of acres of NZ land. Then they buy or build there own processing factories .Job done ,then employ a lot of there own staff too . Result ALL THE MONEY GOES ABROAD ,but the country is still then reliant on the milk that the chinese then own outright .
Every country in the world is getting stripped bare by the insatiable appetite of the chinese . Thats how there domination is achieved . The government over here are powerless or toothless to stop it .
.Been in NZ 25+yrs and seen a hell of a lot of the sheep and arable farming turned to dairying to the detriment of the country in my opinion .
Covid-19 did start and get some local producers to think more about supplying the domestic market but they still want export prices . Crazy.

From what I've seen, the companies that sell "Australian" property/rights to the 'Chinese' etc are our superannuation providers who have shares in Australian propery/rights, so it really is our desire for a good super return that might drive the sale of "Australia" to the Chinese (or yanks,Canadians,english).
My thoughts only but talk will get you no where. Check where your super company derives it's profits.
Bottom line is why are the Chinese different to and other country that has succeeded in becoming successful?

The Chinese man is no different than me
The Chinese leaders on the other hand, are in the same boat, as any other countries leaders
They all do their best, to screw each other, and gain an advantage for their own country
I suppose that is why we have diplomats, to smooth things over
We all saw that when Covid-19 started, there were items of essential goods, which we realised were no longer manufactured here
I have confidence that our Australian leaders, will now take steps, to have those goods manufactured here
Sometimes my confidence in our leaders, may be misplaced, time will tell
If we wish to have manufacturing return to our shores, we will have to keep buying Australian goods
I try my best to buy "Australian made" stuff, but there is a lot of stuff, not made here
