Hi. My wife and I recently purchased a 2nd hand 21' 6" jayco heritage. We are very happy with the van except for the toilet. We cannot get the smell out. We have used the Woolies nappy san equivalent for our previous vans and found it okay. Not seeming to work now. Any suggestions? Thank you.

I add two or three tablespoons of eucalyptus oil to the nappy san. Works well.

Hi Kerryn49
Welcome to the forum
What I found out some years ago, while doing a bit of research, (err surfing the net), on cassette toilets
If you (or a previous owner), had been using the cassette manufactures products, and change over to Napisan/Boost products. You must rinse out the cassette many times, before the Napisan/Boost products will work Something about the original manufactures product, (which becomes ingrained in the cassette), nullifying Napisan/Boost
If the Sodium Percarbonate in the Napisan/Boost is less than 30%, it may not be effective in the cassette, (I have seen on the shelf some at 27%)
Always leave at least 5 mm of water above the slide, after using the toilet, this acts as a smell barrier. If the water will not stay above the slide, then something is wrong with the seal, and has to be cleaned or replace
Hope that this info is useful to you
If you let us know how you fixed the problem, it may help others in the future

Buy a bottle of NILODOR, wash every surface with it to give the toilet a nice fresh smell.. A few drops in warm water is all you need. Coles stock it.
Friends had a freezer break down when they were away on holidays and NILODOR was the only product that got rid of the smell.
We fitted a SOG unit to the toilet in our van. It exhausts the odour out when the the blade of the toilet is opened.

maybe the cassette needs new seals - fairly easy to replace. Also check the area under the cassette after you remove it - ours had 2 small compartments in the floor beneath the cassette and when we removed the lids found the compartments needed a clean

Tried all the other options. I found the best to be the Walex satchels, lavender.

By the way, the cheapest place to buy eucalyptus oil is Bunnings - $13.50 for a 250ml bottle.

Just fill the cassette right to the top with a fairly strong bleach solution and leave it for a few hours (taking the usual precautions of course)
Rinse well and then do the same using 4 litres of white vinegar and shake it well, let it sit, shake....
to remove any build up of scale. There will be scale build up around the rubber seal on top so need to remove the sliding cover on top and fill that with vinegar as well

I did read somewhere that bi carb soda is supposed to remove scale build up in cassette. I did pull my top section where slide out is ,,,,,off , after I looked at a youtube video.
There are many diff sprays for cassete toilet use. Will help to clear the air, they were at jayco spare parts
