OK another covid thread. Sorry but it pisses me off. Big time.
The ALF chiefs flew, with their families, from Melbourne to Brisbane to do a deal with the Qld gov for the grand final. (And reportedly 400 officials). NO quarantine requirements and they tell me Melbourne is a hot spot. Oh and don't worry. WA and SA were also trying to do a deal.
V8 Supercars spent 2 weeks in the NT, after delays getting from Qld to the NT because of? Yes covid quarantine. But the NT did a back flip when Superscars started to turn around the trucks at the NT border. Two weeks in Darwin. Then two weeks in Townsville and now they are off to South Australia. For two weeks. How are they getting there? Brisbane to SA via Tennant Creek? Or maybe via that other virus hell called NSW.
I haven't mentions other examples but I could.
So will some of you pro border closure folks please explain to me how these border closures are nothing more than a political 'stunt'. Will some of you folks who said "health before wealth" now please stand up and make some lame excuses.
Maybe sick babies and families trying to attend funerals don't pay enough???
I'm on the Gold Coast and cant see my dying mother in Victoria and the polls say votes are more important.
Right fire away.

bgt you are wrong those that travelled to Qld yesterday are going into a quarantine for 14 days.
The reason why SA and WA missed out on the GF was simple two dickhead power mad Premiers who failed to see the benefit to the city/state to host the final series, concessions need to made, even the Qld Premier who is as dumb as dog **** was smart enough to see benefit to Queensland as a whole, Both the NRL and AFL when playing games in Queensland play at different stadiums across the state from Cairnes to Townsville to the Sunshine Coast also Brisbane and Gold Coast, what has SA and WA to offer just 1 major stadium in the capital city.
It all boils down to zelots over border closures who a **** scared of the what if factor, facts are starting to emerge there is differing views within in the medical proffession as to the lock downs, an interesting fact the highest percentage by age and gender of positive cases of the virus is female between 20-30, the highest death rate is in the 80's + age group with other underlying medical issues. Which means we should be working harder to make these aged care facilities even safer from infection, then ask why are these facilities so at risk, the answer is the medical profession and associated workers, until there is a proper decomtamination enrty and exit at every facitity then nothing will change, PPE alone is not the answer unless it it changed after every interaction with residents and associates.

To go to Vic from Qld there are 2 borders. If you can cross to go south you can't cross to come back north. Isolation is often not an option. So We could be trapped in Danistan for months.

Could be Its time for the old and vulnerable to look after themselves. They might just do a better job of it than the govt. There's not that many of them left anyway. Makes me feel quite sick thinking about all those poor old souls who have lived through so much and survived and then the very people who were supposed to be looking after them let them down.
For the premiers, it is a dammed if you do or dammed if you don't. and you can't blame them for taking the popular opinion of those who elected them.

msg, The CHO of Qld, NSW and Vic & the Fed CMO are all highly experienced and qualified medical practitioners. They served the time at the coalface as GPs, A&E doctors and specialists before moving into admin. At their level, they won't be pounding keys entering data into spreadsheets. I've worked in areas (medical and education) where great practitioners sometimes made lousy admin staff and lousy practitioners never made great admin staff. You're underselling them mate. As for opening up the country, 3 people lied about being in a Vic hotspot and now there are 30 or so others now infected and directly traceable to them.

dabbled 3 may have lied. But 400 came to QLD just to organize a get together for 30,40000 fans. Hmm let me see, 3 v 40000. I know which is the biggest risk. And convince me that everyone one of those 400 will now go into isolation. And more importantly were ALL 400 in 14 day isolation BEFORE they flew to QLD?
Regardless of anyone's view you have appreciate the hypocrisy.
Families can't get to see their doctors yet thousands can go and see a footy match that they can see on TV. Something is very wrong in a country when lives are being destroyed but only for those without influence and contacts.
By the way the QLD CMO is on $600000.00+ a year. Has she suffered in anyway while imposing her rules on the rest of us?

Forget the details. Forget what some may say they are doing. The fact is that this sends the wrong message to all those in the population trying to do the right thing. It becomes a them and us. It's this crap that annoys the general population. The perception. No one can defend exemptions based on money.

Qld's current outbreaks are all linked (using genetic sciences) to the 3 who lied bgt. The 4000 won't be coming from out of state without quarantine. You talk up perception not aligning with facts yet you just spout bs about quarantine. AFL hubs are quarantined. Supercars are quarantined. Facts. You need to get over your dislike of people because of earnings. You don't have the skills or experience and Qld CMO does. Qld isn't stopping you from leaving to be with loved ones, it's still your decision. Economists by and large agree with medicos, closed borders haved saved the country from true economic disaster and continue to save the country. Feds bitch about opening borders and in the same breath compare our status with countries that left borders open. That is sheer hypocrisy. Our society's attitude to science in general is piss-poor. Just listen to the science and the scientific experts, visit your loved ones and face any ramifications after the fact. A lot of sour grapes and self regret but few relevant facts in your posts I reckon.

I always have, and always will, push my wheelbarrow of health before wealth
I have known for a while, that just about every State/Territory, is/was looking at bubbles, so that certain area/people can interact
As far as the AFL goes, they had a Covid plan of operating within a bubble, when they came to Perth WA
There was one breach, (which I am aware of), one player within the bubble, met up with his girlfriend who was not within the bubble
The WA Premier, and the AFL officials were not impressed, with this breach, and the player was stood down for the rest of the season
I have no reason not to believe, that the AFL players/officials/wives/girlfriends/children who went to Brisbane, are not in a bubble
If I am wrong, and Covid-19 virus, spreads from the AFL people, into the Queensland population, I expect the Premier of QLD, to cop a lot of flack
You will certainly hear me speak up, if Covid-19 spreads from the AFL, especially around the time when anyone, tries to force open the WA borders

dabbler you are talking politics and not reality. You mention believing the science. But only the science that suits your view. You talk economists yet ignore both sides of the debate.
Typical of those with a political bent not wanting to take off the blinkers and see what the real world looks like. So rather than debating the issues you turn to personal attack.

I understand your point about health before wealth Tony and agree. Almost everyone calling for open borders want wealth before health. But you can't call this a backflip given AFL hubs have been in WA, NSW and Qld since early June and teams have been moving around the country between game venues and hubs. I personally feel national sporting comps should never have eventuated in 2020 but I imagine the argument is "entertainment during lockdown" stops a percentage getting cabin fever (but there's no doubt a lot of money involved). On the topic of player's families, why wouldn't they be in a bubble ? Some of these people are celebrities by virtue of their AFL connection and will be seen and photographed. The Qld govt won't hold back if they bare discovered outside their quarantine.

bgt, politics is reality. Conservative ex-MPs support hard borders btw. The science is definitive, there is higher protection afforded to populations with hard borders. Which states refused to close borders ? The two in the most serious situation through community transmission. Travel from those states into Qld has caused Qld outbreaks without quarantine, not the near nightly AFL games hosted at the Gabba and Carrara. There have been zero cases of Covid-19 linked to the games played in Qld.

Here's a fact. There are more than 25 million Australians. There are just under 26000 covis-19 cases so far in Australian in 7 months. At that rate of infection it will take approx 450 years for the entire population to catch covid-19.
When we have politicians making hypocritical announcements based on politics we're playing a dangerous game.
Now where's the guarantee that all those ALF folks who flew up to Brisbane have been in quarantine for the past 14 days? Evidence not just political spin.
Regardless of opinion or facts the whole issue sends a very bad message. If you've got the money then you get better treatment.
But I know I'm not getting the message through. Some folks are just not prepared to open their eyes or minds.

bgt,
Your comments above are quite emotional if only at the least, to you. Unfortunately they contain little to no truth.
There is absolutely nothing stopping you from visiting and maybe spending the time that your dying mother has left on this earth.
Your decision not to spend this time with your loved one apparently is overidden by your need to remain in sunny Queensland.
The prevention of travel from some states to others is Not A Penalty, but is a very effective method of preventing the spread.
If you think for one minute that this is a penalty imposed by state Premiers and their respective health officers to destroy tourism and business in general then you are really dillusional.
Queensland have sent health professionals to Victoria to assist with their problems and many of them have returned to their families in exactly the same manner as the bubbles and isolation procedures adopted by the national sporting bodies.
Pack up and go and spend time with your dying mum and trouble yourself with travelling across borders if and when the poor soul passes.
