We are in our 60s returning from work overseas and plan to buy a hybrid or a van (question for another time) and get out on the road when the borders open up. We have some underlying health conditions and ongoing medication but nothing to stop us getting out and about. Can I ask for recommendations for health insurance please?

Given you might be paying double premiums if first time being insured in Australia, and there will be long waiting periods if have pre-existing conditiond and given many are giving up private insurance anyway, maybe you should consider sticking with the public system

PS no need to wait until borders open. All states have enough room to keep you occupied for years without needing to cross borders

Just about circumnavigated it this morning to go and get some milk.
At least we are technically not in lockdown. Told not to go anywhere unless its essential travel.

Not sure that the ACT is regarded as a state. Doesn't meet the minimum size requirements.

Hi Apollo88
I do not have any recommendations, as such
I only have experience of HBF (Hospital Benefit Fund), of Western Australia
Self funded retired couple, (so no Government old age pension, for a few more years), cost us $4,200 per year for the top of the range cover
We have been with this organisation, (it took over our previous private medical fund), for over 50 years, so I suppose we get a bit of discount
Whatever else you do, or do not do, it is important, (if you are not an old age pensioner), to obtain ambulance cover
My wife unfortunately had to use an ambulance, about a few months ago, to take her to a hospital, about 4 kilometres away from home
We received a bill of just over/under $1,000
We went around to the St John ambulance depot/office, and showed them our HBF card, and they sorted it out between themselves

No its a Territory. But still has borders. they appear to be open to everyone but everyone is not open to ACT.
