G'day Recoup,
I'm bunkered down in Nth East VIC during level 3 restrictions and have to have a mask on every time I leave the aluminium teepee. I can drive without one on as I am solo but as soon as I get out on goes a mask. Not the best thing to do in the world, in fact, I struggle a little with breathing and still to solve the glasses fogging up but surviving.
If that's all I have to complain about, then I'm doing OK. Just my small contribution to helping out. OH! I am not going anywhere apart from Supermarket and a little butcher I found to help out with his bank account a little.
Edit.....just watched the video and she obviously isn't in VIC that has been declared a State of emergency and Disaster making it now law to have a mask on when out of your home. We can only be guided by the health 'experts'.
Keep Safe out there.

Now to start with I haven't watched the video but just saying that tomorrow I have my annual ENT specialist appointment in Brisbane, in Wickham Tce, and my husband and I have to mask up for this appointment (husband is allowed to come with me). This specialist surgeon does surgery in a number of Brisbane hospitals and has been advised by the hospitals that his patients must mask up when they go in for a consultation. I've made 3 layered washable fabric masks for us to wear. Mine is not the best shape but is practical for me as I didn't want elastics going around my ears. Besides needing glasses for reading I have a hearing aid behind one ear with the bit that comes into the ear on the right and a cochlear processor behind the left, with the cord going up to the headpiece and a mic that comes around to the front of the ear. You try getting a regular mask with ear loops around/over/under that stuff. I also have very thick hair. So I've devised a mask with elastics that goes around the back of the neck, under the hair, and doesn't go near the ears. Not the prettiest but now that I know the shape I need I can do a better one in the future but haven't time to do it before tomorrow. Just a by the by our local Ladies Shed have made thousands of masks these past few months. Mostly we do the pleated rectangle type with the ear loops in two or three layers of fabric. Cheers.

It looks like that video was put up on 21 March, so was probably made before then
I am of the impression that early on with Covid-19, there were not enough masks available, if everyone had rushed out to buy them
I seem to recall that the W.H.O. once said, that it was not a person to person virus, and that you could only catch it from touching contaminated surfaces
We have since learned otherwise
I believe that we are still learning about Covid-19
I read in the past that, China had seen some people catch the virus twice
Recently someone in Hong Kong, had caught the virus twice
I read earlier on, that there was no need for children to wear masks
The latest, is that British schoolchildren, will now be wearing masks
I read somewhere that there is now three different strains of Covid-19 floating around
Sometimes the information coming through, is somewhat contradictory
Sometimes I read that some leaders, (who should know better), may be spreading misinformation
If I was in a hotspot, or if I was in an area, where they told me to wear a mask, then I would wear a mask
As I am interested enough, and with nothing else to do, I am trying to follow Covid-19
I am sure that I am taking a balanced view by saying
The W.H.O are always behind in their warnings, as they wait until enough info has come through, before giving warnings
The goalposts are changing all the time, probably because we have never had a pandemic (in Australia), in our era, before the present time
Not everyone is pulling in the same direction, as some seem to be more concerned about financial, than health outlooks
Unfortunately, for all of us, I think that some pollies (worldwide), are still playing politics, which can never help control a pandemic

To srpp/reduce your glasses fogging wipe down your glasses with some soapy water. e.g dish washing liquid and dont rinse.

Hi Recoup
The latest info I had come across was dated 7 June 2020, in a Q&A page on W.H.O. website Link at the bottom of this page
I do seem to recall reading a while ago, that some scientist had written to the W.H.O, explaining that their policy of not wearing masks, was wrong, or words to that effect
I am now led to believe that as far as wearing masks in public, the W.H.O, had said to follow local area guidelines, set out by local authorities, or words to that effect
For those of us imprisoned in Danistan masks are now a part of life. We found the regular masks are terrible things, can't breathe properly, fog your glasses, just awful. Then we found these, hard to remember what life was like before masks but these things are so much better than the face mufflers, even fit over your glasses:

Amazing how many people have recently taken up jogging and cycling in my area for their permitted one hour per day exercise release from solitary. No mask required for joggers or cyclists - including riding electric bikes, which require no more exertion than walking. All you have to do to avoid a mask in Vic is don the lycra and get a bike or do a Cliff Young half shuffle without actually breaking into a jog. Creative avoidance, but what a mockery it makes of the masks policy.
Also funny how just a few months ago health officials declared the wearing of masks as a defence against virus transmission was pointless and ineffective, now they're mandatory. Go figure. We have to wear them everywhere indoors & outdoors, yet in supermarkets everyone can potentially handle every piece of fruit and veg in the store with impunity.
As for what is considered adequate face covering in Vic: 'Permitted' face coverings have no standard, basically anything you can stick over your visage is OK, and required by all except for the joggers and cyclists. Experts are everywhere with a variety of opinions on masks. Some say any covering can prevent droplets from escaping, others say only multi (triple) layer masks are effective, the trouble with those is you need a snorkel.

Unfortunately there is a hell of a lot of misinformation on the internet and main stream media. PPE is the least effective form of control and should be used along with additional controls. In this case predominantly isolation. Each control adds to reducing the risk but do not on their own eliminate it. In the case of covid it is probably impossible to eliminate the transmission of the virus.
Masks never fit with a 100% seal. Any air that leaks is not providing protection. Beards cause huge leaks. There are several standards but the p2 (n95) is the best option. A disposable can be used for about 4 to 8hrs. But heavily depends on environment and how it's handled. I use mine 3 or 4 times then toss them out. Even junk masks will stop some spit/vapour. Including a P1 or scaled. But some are better than others. At the end of the day, distance (isolation) is prefered. But distance + mask is better. In the case of covid you should filter your air you breath in both directions. So the ones with the valve are unsuitable. . If you want real protection via air you need to wear a silicon/rubber rerespirator with a p2 filter. Or an air supplied system that is completely impracticable.
Gloves can protect the wearer but through touch can also spread bugs. I use a glove at the servo, but rest of the time was hands or sanitizer.

The theory of controls. Bedt at the top.
Eliminate.
Substitute
Isolate
Engineer.
Administration
PPE.
For covid.
Isolate. Distance, iso at home
Administration, follow directives and laws.
PPE.
Later perhaps Eliminate by re-engineering virus to make a vaccine.
The fogging of glasses can be reduced by wiping or rinsing with a solution of soapy water Dish washing liquid works well. I use it every bay.
