We are planning to go to the Centre plus northern W.A. with an A'van Cruiseliner Adventure Plus.
We have trouble with the air con. in this brand new van as it only cools 1 - 2 Degrees C. It is a Finch under bed system. That won't do in the Outback!
Has anyone else had that problem?

Welcome Yoohoo, I don't know about your air-conditioner but if it is a new van I would suggest you give A'Van a call as it would be under warranty.

Agree, & when it is fixed, run it thoroughly there until you are happy that it is actually fixed. No point driving back & forth.

Thanks for that but A'Van don't want to hear about it. 'Not available' ; won't return calls etc.
I just wondered if anybody else had any trouble as well.
Cheers!

Get all your dates of correspondence in a diary & brief notes on all discussions & contact Fair Trading. Probably the only government department that is extremely helpful.

Take the van to your dealer, park in the driveway and lock the car until they fix your air con.

Any phone calls to a supplier, say to them I will send you an email or letter..... As per our conversation on X date & time, this & that was said & agreed to.
You are creating a paper trail. Perfect for Fair Training.

I have done similar in a previous life collecting cheques from late paying customers in the aluminium industry. Also always be polite, have reading material & water & snacks & stay there until they do something or a date is agreed to. Get them to agree to date reasonable date to do the repairs is ok. The key is to pin them down to dates & confirm back to then in writing.
If you are sitting in their office they may say they will call the police, say ok I will wait. Alway be polite & take notes.
Cheques always came, some very late in the evening!

Welcome to the gang Yoohoo, enjoy here and out in the playground.
I had a Avan 'Sportliner' for a few years and a couple of friends had a Cruisliner with the same aircon you mention. They also had trouble with the aircon. They also had trouble with Avan as did I but mine was other things as didn't have the aircon. I tried and tried and even went to where I bought mine new but they didn't want to know me. They actually told me "we sell 'em not fix 'em" Yeh sure! In the end and after many an argument it wasn't worth getting all worked up over and gave up with them. Most things I was able to fix myself with great advice and help from knowledgeable friends.
I loved my Avan and had many good trips and met many great people. I only sold it because I went full time on the road and wanted something bigger around me and my own ensuite. I now love the aluminium teepee listed below. I thought of Avan but because of the lack of treatment gave them a very wide birth.
Keep Safe on the roads and out there.

Thanks Travelling Dilberries!
We were supposed to go to the Kimberley this Winter, but alas, it will now be next year. We will get used to our van in our own State for a while and we look forward to meeting some of you en route.

Hi Dougwe,
We appreciate your response. A'van tell us they have sold thousands of these vans and never had any trouble with the aircon. Pigs might fly!
I expect the Borders will open up soon and we will all be off for some travelling.
Happy Days.

Yes, we need to stand up to such businesses. Consumer laws are quite clear. I don't see how one could go wrong going down that path with such an obvious issue.
Best Wishes,

A warm welcome from me also, Yoohoo
There is an Avan Owners club (easily googled)
Perhaps you could get in touch with them, they may know someone higher up, in the Avan caravan hierarchy
It certainly is not a good advertisement for their caravan product, if a major piece of built in kit (air-conditioner) will not work
