My wife and I picked up our first full size van today. it's a Coromal Element 632 and we presently have a 2007 Prada gXL, which we are upgrading very soon. still tossing up between a Hilux or a Ranger so will be looking in th forums for some advice on which is the best tow vehicle.
Looking forward to many Trips ahead.

I am also from Perth. My current vehicle is a Ranger and I have found it a very capable tow vehicle and 4wd.
Mine has completed 4 trips across the continent and back with our 3 tonne van in tow, one of those trips a complete lap, all without trouble. We have been into some interesting places with it showing that it is a very good vehicle off road as well.
I can certainly recommend it as a very good vehicle for caravanning.

Welcome to the gang Tony, enjoy here and out in the playground.
Out of the two you mention I would go with the Ranger. The price of both would probably be close anyway. The new Amarok might be worth a gander as well.
I was thinking Ranger back when I got my Colorado but it was out of my price range at the time.
Off course you could always get a big boys toy and get a Ram or F250.
One thing I will mention though is, if you are thinking of a canopy maybe think aluminium shed. The aluminium tradie canopy on a tray. I went Genuine Holden canopy but it is getting hard to climb over the tailgate to get down the end now and wish I had gone the other way as you can get at things all around from the ground.
Keep Safe on the roads and out there.

A warm welcome from me also, Lyons66
I do not tow a caravan, so can not comment on the type of vehicle
I very recently read (on this forum), that some Ford rangers are being recalled, for a fix of their auto transmission oil pump
Fairly small cross section of Rangers with the auto recall. It was only for a short run of them. Given the number that have been sold in this country, it obviously was a faulty batch of trans pumps in those vehicles.

Hi JeffRae - I was in Australind 2 weeks ago. Just a day trip - one of those 'Load the dogs, start driving, see where we end up' deals. Was freezing but a pretty place nonetheless :)
