we have hired a campervan for two weeks and planned to drive the Sydney to Brisbane route in July 2020. Would you recommend that we still do it post fires or should we rather head for Brisbane and spend more time to the north. Would appreciate any local info. Many thanks

Welcome to the gang Val, enjoy here and out in the playground.
Two weeks is not all that long but if you plan going up the Pacific Hwy you can choose a few detours over to the waters edge so to speak. I'm sure the local businesses etc will welcome you with open arms. Nelson Bay, Port Macquarie, Coffs Harbour, Byron Bay just to mention a few. A week up a week back. Maybe up One way back inland a tad. Your call really.

Hi Val....In NSW there's more to see and do than you'll EVER do in two months, let alone two weeks. As suggested, head North on the coast road, and return inland,or vice versa.Good luck with your plans.Cheers

QLD has closed its borders. You will be turned back at any place where you can enter Qld from NSW. Even the back roads and rat runs are closed and enforced by police/military. Also $1300 fines are being dished out to those who fail to keep the 1.5 metre distance between them
Blame the COVID virus
Travel safe (in your own backyard)

Hope that it is not too late for me to say, welcome to the forum Val M
I notice that the post is from March 3, when there were probably no travel restrictions
At the moment everything is up in the air, about travelling, due to the Coronavirus
I am not sure if anyone can say, if travel restrictions will be lifted before July 2020, when you plan to travel, as things are changing by the week
I hope that, sometime in the future, there will be many happy road trips, ahead of you

our international borders may be very restrictive for foreigners travelling for holidays for a while beyond when internal border restrictions get lifted

Hi Val,
Forget the fires, you can't travel ATM due to Covid 19 restrictions. Is no one here getting the memos ?
Unless you fancy being chased down by high tech drones, polair, armed swat teams, cuffed, tasered, thrown into the back of a police paddy wagon and quarantined for 2 weeks, best wait until restrictions are lifted. Wouldn't like your first experience to the pineapple state to leave a bitter taste.
