We have decided to acquire a road house, Traveller Black velvet
Hoping to fill in the gaps that we have done by General travels and camping with the gremlins, skipping every other town knowing at some stage we would return to complete the puzzle that our great island has to offer.
Have been reading with interest the different subjects on offer, and look forward to conversing with the group
We are currently reconditioning the unit and brining it into ease of access and compliance ( mod cons ) ha ha, does anyone have any suggestions for roof solar panels my battery bank is setup and is waiting for solar connection
Looking forward to hearing from avi

Welcome to the gang Night_owl, enjoy here and out in the playground.
If I am reading correctly you are buying a caravan or similar. I say that as I got a little confused reading your introduction. That's not hard for me to get confused easy though and I tell you that for free.
Keep Safe on the roads and out there.

That's a big van I have Googled and viewed, does it have a club lounge. If there is only two of you, perhaps a couple of recliners would be the go. Maybe you could tell us more about your plans and what you have.

Night Owl have a search in the Techies threads, heaps of Solar info on there. You will need to work out or take a stab at what your useage may be, what your battery total capacity is, then work out solar required.
Welcome n cheers.

Hey thanks all
We have acquired this palace, yes it has a club lounge and would love to convert to with recliners at some time although ATM no hurry, problem being to work out how to setup and not lose under space storage.
Still going through the process of setting up electrical system possibly going for 2 x 160 solar panels
Have noticed that there is a caravan show in WA in March, going just to interact and explore with other grey nomads for Whats on offer, hints, tips & savings and general knowledge

We have recliners in place of the club lounge, believe me a van that size will have too much storage space. Items in storage = weight, which you don't want to accumulate. We are full time in the van which is nicely set up for free or low cost camping. Suggest you do plenty of planning and enquiring before spending (caravan shows).

Thanks iana
Slowly going through Whats required or Whats on wish list, as you said weight is the big factor
Do you have a photo of your setup with the recliners, have seen one where they have a small step up tunnel, looks almost like a dance floor with the recliners on top

Welcome to the forum, Night Owl
Re your question about solar panels, if you ask in the Techie section, you will get a better response
I am not a techie, but basically you work backwards
You figure out how much 12 volt power you require
You get enough deep cycle battery/s for the power you require
You get enough solar to keep your battery/s charged
For example my 12 volt requirements are between 60 and 100 AH (Amp Hours) per day
I have 2 X 120 AH AGM deep cycle batteries
I have 300 Watt of solar panel on my roof, plus a light weight 160 watt portable solar panel
This is sufficient for my current needs

Thanks for your break down Tony Bev
Great to hear from you with the backward breakdown, although it seems o'dd its a good way to understand your own usage and if you can improve your way of diversifying what elements are at your disposal with regards to solar panels i am leaning more too 2 x 160 watt mountable to roof, i have made the connection an Anderson plug if I decide to go extra portable panel which can be added at any stage.
Our intention is to go off grid by solar and gas as we now understand the full potenial of gas usage for our fridge to stored power trying equalise and utilise each commodity
Again thanks for your help
