Can you believe it, Queensland Labor Party that is in Government has a delegation somewhere overseas to try to gain the Olympic games for Brisbane.
We have already held the International Expo back in the 1980's the Commonwealth Games also way back and of course the last Commonwealth Games on the Gold Coast.
Do we need another Olympic Games in Australia, particularly Brisbane Qld.?? Your views please.
Now imagine the cost involved in hosting the Games in Brisbane. Of course, I have no idea. But it would be probably be somewhere in the Billion Dollar mark.
Now imagine what Queensland could do with those dollars transferred to future infrastructure like Roads ( Particularly the Bruce Highway to Cairns) More Dams, even a new coal fired power station. The list can go on and on.
I am an sort of avid sports person, but surely we need to look ahead more to the future and support our entire state rather than a few weeks of Olympic Glory.
What is the value of a gold medal compared to the value of our future.
Would be great to have these dollars in a disaster relief fund.
Again, I must say this is just my view, and yours may differ.

Lunacy. I don't know why any country would bid for the Olympics when you look at the disasters the games leave in their wake. I certainly hope Brisbane misses out.

Me too. i would rather peoples tax dollars spent for the good of all not a few. New roads, more hopsital and emergency staff, housing, schooling. The list goes on. could say more but it might be defamatory.

At least when the Premier was overseas she was not disrupting the fire fighting efforts.

It won't take place, the end of the world as we have known it will be over, according to the latest hoax predictions.
The last indicated year 2000.

I'm sorry, but there are lots more things that money should be spent on, rather than the Olympic Games. They might be an economic benefit to the South East corner, but will do absolutely nothing for the rest of the State.

How about a Premier and Deputy pass the baton race?
First to reach the end of the railway line wins.

As i said originally, I am against the bid for the Games for Brisbane.
Have you noticed just how much media coverage sport has in say Brisbane.
The courier Mail had 20 pages on all sort of sports.
The TV stations are covering more and more sport of all types these days.
Of course all the betting agencies, and I guess there will be more to come must be spending a fortune of media advertising.
By the way, was there sport betting in the last Olympic or Commonwealth games???

All the pollies always claim economic benefit but the reality is far from that, with most host nations footing the bill for decades to come. WA has just completed a football stadium which cost billions and yet the economy was not doing well, taxes and charges being increased, and things that we really need put on the back burners while Premier's build monuments to themselves. Let some other sucker country host the Olympics in my opinion.

Greg Im in Perth and do understand the economic benefits that Optus Stadium is bringing to our state as well as the benefits of sporting and social events?
