This question needs to be asked next May of late April. Nobody can tell you Cape York road conditions until the end of the wet. This year is no indication of next year and that applies to every year. More of the PDR will be sealed but who knows what else will happen ? Vans will get there every year but a few won't and even more will be temporarily stored along the way.

As dabbler says, impossible to give meaningful advice 12 months out. About 1/2 is bitumised after Lakeland, but the other half (250km) could be impassable or billiard table smooth. We have just stopped at Lakeland recently, and there were full off readers being left rather than taken up the Cape.
