If you're in East Gippsland Victoria make sure you remove your towing mirrors if you're not towing.
$385 fine & its one of their favorites.

When we were pulled over the cop produced a roll up tape measure & held it on the furthest extremity of our mirror then measured back to the widest part of the car.
A DANGEROUS PROJECTION CAUSING AN EXTREME TRAFFIC HAZARD, he called it. This was on the Princes Hwy in the middle of the bush, 50kms from the nearest town.
We have ordinary towing mirrors that stick out a lot less than many others, particularly Clearview.
In fact our mirrors stick out less than Clearviews when they're in the retracted position.
Its illegal to have towing mirrors fitted to a vehicle while not towing in most States apparently.

Back to the original story, why do people complain when they get booked for speeding? Isn't it against the law? Or do we all think that exceeding the limit by a little bit isn't going to attract the attention of the police? Or maybe that there aren't many police out there so we'll take the risk. I see so many fools driving excessively fast that often I wish there were more police around to get these fools off the roads. Whinge if you must, but the more speeders who are booked means more cash in the government coffers for spending on other things without raising taxes even further.

I do agree Kevin in your views.
Olive Oil, thanks for that, I was aware towing mirtors arent permitted when not towing but not the name of the offence.
I was not police but have had extensive experience in local laws, prisons etc. Law enforcement, the prosecution of it doesnt include exceptional circumstances. You were 50km from the nearest town, does that mean drivers at 20km from town are more worthy of the fine? 10km. See it then becomes discrimination besides, how is the police not know you are on your own way into town that day or next, with the mirrors still attached? If you were let off and told others amd they got caught "but you didnt book him". You might say "but my mirrors don't protrude as much" and your friend could legitimately say "its black and white, no grey".
Law enforcement is not fully understood by many. As for quotas, thats the first time I've seen evidence of one. I still dont believe its widespread but the event didnt help their cause.

Kevin I do agree with you to a point. The problem that I see now is that people are being booked for quite small amounts over the limit which now have people being obsessed with their speedo instead of watching where they are going resulting in a lot of accidents.
We are being belted for using mobile phones due to the distraction factor and fair enough too, but the fear of innevertingly speeding is causing the equally dangerous distraction of speedo watching.

Here in SA the police commisioner doesnt say quotas its bench marks sounds better. Also projected fines are factored in to govt revenue.

I had a BBQ at home the other day and slipped out to the corner store (supermarket) to get a few last minute wet groceries.
Buggar!!! Constable (robot) Plodd was waiting around the corner & got me going downhill at 68 km/hr. I now have a nice picture as a keepsake. $177 & 1 point. But it was a great BBQ, meeting up with a guy I worked with around 40 years ago.
First ticket in >30 years.

Cupie, seeing you had a good record you should have wrote to the authorities pointing it out, they might have waved it.
I stopped at Rosedale in Victoria for some takeaway, took off from the kerb and looked at the speedo, doing 65 Km. backed off,but I was snapped.
Wrote to the RTA saying it was an aberration, and had a clean record, they let me off, must have got them on a good day.
And silly me.... I was always of the opinion that our boys oops.... and girls in Blue always had a kill list.
