Finally making our way up Nth to Townsville from Brisbane. (Held up coz Dave got Man Flu).
The amount of Vans heading South was amazing.
Got us wondering is there something going on that we don't' know.
Thought it was a bit early for the Mexicans to be going home.

I live in Hervey Bay QLD and we always go south in winter. The crowds and prices in QLD in winter are crazy. You can sit on the main st of Hervey Bay and there will be a caravan every 5/10 minutes all day

We've recently got back to Melbourne from Outback QLD.
We cut more than 3 weeks off a 10 week trip.
A lot of other people were heading South early like ourselves because of the fly plague West of Charleville in the Noccundra, Thargomindah, Quilpie & Jundah region.
It was bloody cold up there as well.
We had ice on our windscreen in the morning quite a few times.
The days weren't all that warm either, around 17 degrees.

It's ta make ya think 'something is wrong' so you will turn around and go back, KathnDave. Don't let 'em fool ya though.
When I was driving up from Young NSW beginning June via the Hume, Pacific and Bruce highways it was no different and wondered why so many are heading south. I reckon it was 50% either way.
All I know is, it is very busy here in tropical Townsville with according to the local news, record tourism so far this winter. Temps a cool over night with 7c to 15c and days mid 20's. Nice weather for this mexican and I tell you that for free.
Take care KathnDave (and anyone else) if you are tyravelling the Bruce hwy as heaps of serious crashes over the last month or so, some fatal. Not all that far from Townsville.
Keep Safe on the roads and out there.

When we were heading North at the start of June, I would say it was 3 to 1 vans heading South, kept thinking we were going the wrong way.
Every rest area and CP, Qld, NT, and SA plates all heading South towards Perth, maybe trying to beat the school hols.
Then when we had to head home, 3 to 1 going North..........late migration or something !!!
Cheers Bob

The trouble is though that when you're driving you only see the one caravan in front of you, not all others that are behind. But you do see all the caravans going in the opposite direction!

True - if you stopped at one point, you'd probably find still more going north than south. By this time, though, many would have finished in the far north and may be slowly coming back down the coast. Or may be like us - heading north for 3 weeks, and then having to turn around and come back because of that dreaded 4 letter work that starts with w and ends in k.
