I have a 1989 Mitsubishi Fuso converted bus/motorhome with 750R18 rims and tyres on it. These tyres are no longer available.
I am about to change over to 17.5 inch rims. Does anybody know where i can get verification that this will be legal?
I have looked everywhere on the net but cannot find out anything.
Any advice would be appreciated

I had split rims (with tubed tyres) on my bus and it was cheaper to replace them with tubeless rims and tyres than to replace just the tyre alone

Welcome to the gang Leo, enjoy here and out in the playground.
Leo, I would strongly suggest you go visit, not ring, the road authorities in your state of rego and speak with vehicle inspectors.
You could also visit a local bus company and get the right person in the authorities to speak to. Bus companies have to have a bus operators accreditation and have a system in place for regular internal checks as well as annual checks by the state authorities.
I know that probably doesn't sound much help but is what I would do and have done in a previous life.

It should be ok as long as the diameter of the tyre is no larger than the original tyre. They do allow a small increase with engineer cert. Check and recalibrate speedo for any varience

A change in tyre and rim specification will need engineering approval to ensure that the new ones meet the strength an offset specifications required for the vehicle. Your state registration authority will have a list of engineers approved to do this work. Cheers, Peter

I had similar Fuso Bus . We fitted 19.5 wheels . Didnt require engineering in NSW . Just make sure correct offset . Clearance over brake drum !! On the face ., The lower aspect ratio tyres bought the ratio about the same as 18 ., What surprised us was the AGE of the 18 tyres ! Over 20 years !!
