We very recently purchased an Axis TV and were told you could use a portable hard drive into the USB plug to watch movies but it doesnt recognise it or any USB thumb drive into USB socket and so you cant go into the media file in the set up to select it. We have phoned the Service Centre along with the place of purchase but we still dont have an answer. The instruction book doesnt mention any size capacity. Can anyone help with advice? Thankyou.

Most TVs will only play whats been recorded on a memory stick what was recorded from the TV. It depends on what the Format is from the hard drive. And what formats the TV will decode.

Welcome to the gang Janine, enjoy here and out in the playground.
I have a 23' Teac, yeh I know, not a Axis but a lot of TV's are similar. I found my PVR works well connected via HDMI cable and My Chrome cast also connected the same way works well. I also found if just a quick record onto USB stick the TV only recognises 16gb max and nothing over so only use 16gb. Might be worth checking your destruction manual for max USB stick allowed. I also have a separate small DVD player that connects via HDMI as well if ever needed.
I also of course have to go into the menu and select the media I want at the time. Also and as well even, if recording onto USB I can only watch the Channel I am recording. MY PVR will record two channels while watching a third if I want.
I am more a Netflix person these days, via the Chrome Cast or even on my phone or Laptop.
