Hi guys we are heading off on a 2 year trip around Oz soon and need to get our camper insured. Hoping some of you may have advise on who has been good and covers Australia wide or what I should look out for in a policy? TIA

Gooday,
Have been with Ken Tame /Allianz, for several years, OK need to join the CMCA as associate member, but have Caravan and 2 vehicles with them and found their rates to be very fair. rR
Regrettably had a claim on our Tow Vehicle recently, absolutely fuss free to claim and will not lose our No Claim Bonus with this claim approximately $10,000.

Caravan Insurance Company (C.I.C.) are the overall best when it comes to honouring claims. They are not to cheapest, but any claims are handled with a minimum of fuss over the phone, further you can choose your preferred repairer.

I have to concur. I needed to get insurance quickly when I originally bought our van (on finance). I was away working at the time, and had heard that CIC was good. Without the time to do extensive research, I rang CIC & they answered my questions thoroughly. In the second year I had to make a claim - all fuss free and handled quickly and efficiently.

Be very careful with caravan / camper insurance.
We had our camper suffer a mechanical breakdown which involved a load of cash being dropped for the recovery. The repairs were another load of cash as was a night of emergency accommodation. Exactly NONE of that was covered despite the involvement of the Insurance Industry Ombudsman and a very high profile QC (family friend).
As I said. Be very careful and read the fine print to make good and sure what's covered.
If anyone would like me to name and shame please send me a PM.

Do you know of any companies that wouldve covered that? Most Ive looked at will barely cover 100km of towing or $1000 which will go nowhere in the bush

Been with RAA for house van car and boat for years. Good rates and excellent service.
Not sure that any insurance would cover mechanical breakdown.
I would have thought it was more of a roadside thing that RAA/RACV would cover.

I have never dealt with Ken Tame & Associates so cannot comment on premiums/ service etc. I can advise that they are a subsidiary of Allianz who are the underwriters/insurers of your caravans. Wording from their Financial Services Guide (FSG) is:
Do we have any relationships or associations
with product issuers which might reasonably
influence us?
We are a wholly owned subsidiary of Allianz, the
issuer of the insurance products.

I would love to go with RAC (WA version) but they won't give us agreed value, only a lower value than we paid for it unfortunately.

We were happy with GIO for many years until they were swallowed up by Suncorp & premium prices sky rocketed. We went to RACV.
