I have just been diagnosed with Intermediate PC. It is contained in the "P" (had all the checks)

Do I choose Radiation or Surgery? Surgery is to remove the Prostate completely.

Your comments and advise would be greatly appreciated.

Unfortunately Hetho, only you can decide after talking it through with the doctor/surgeon/cancer nurse

I was 67 (4 1/2 years ago, and I had not been to a doctor for a number of years) went for a pit stop check, after the doctor collared me, as I was having my annual flu shot

They said high PSA of nine point something
Had something like an ultrasound and it showed cancer near the edge of the prostate

The way I read the literature, and listening to the doctor/surgeon/cancer nurse, the worst scenarios were, (so I could be wrong, as below is my own interpretation)

• Surgery, a small percentage of people dribble a bit
• Radiation a small percentage of people lose control of their bowel

They would have gave you a booklet, explaining how to exercise the pelvic floor muscle
It is important to do the exercise, because it is the prostate which controls the dribbling

For me, keyhole surgery was the one I picked, as with no prostate there is very little PSA count, (I am now 0.01%)
With radiation, there could still be a PSA count, and I would always be wondering, if the radiation had got all the cancer

I can still laugh at myself, and sometimes when I am doing strenuous activities, I will wear a pad, just to be sociable

I was diagnosed with aggressive prostate cancer back in June last year and while it was contained to the prostate biopsies came back as 10 of the 12 positive and with a Gleeson score of 8 out of 10. Urologist highly recommended radiation and HDT injections, so thats what I went for...9 weeks Ray probably 3 years or so with monthly injections. Now almost 12 months on I'm powering PSA .002

Go the Radiation far less intrusive and hardly any chance of incontinence.

I had a Gleeson score of 6, opted for radiation (9weeks) and Hormone therapy. All good now. No leaks or other side effects.

I went that way because the location of my cancer gave a possible good radiation outcome and of all the "possible" side effects of surgery.
