HI GUYS we are currently on the coast road near shingle bay and want to get though to port augusta along the coast. great free camps along here so far but i cant find much imfo on the tracks and if we can get our off rd van though one site on wiki camps says the road cut due to amy training area any one done this trip cheers griffo

'Fraid the fence, whilst pretty fragile, when we were there last means that you can not through legally.
You may even get a person in "Can't see me,s" emerge from a Salt bush clump with a big gun pointing at you.
The training area goes to the water and out a bit as well for various exercises.
Have fun any way. This has frustrated us for many years as it is a most beautiful stretch of coast line both at your feet and across the gulf to the Flinders, especially in the late afternoon / evening.
From the north end one can get down a ways past what is the "Shacks" suburb of Port Augusta as well to the north boundary of the area..

There is an army training firing range in the way, so no you cannot get through, and if you tried and didn't get shot then you would probably be arrested and for good reason. Firing range = not a good holiday spot.

If you want to go through there, you'll have to join up. As said above, there is no public access. It's Cultana Training Area.
It may be inconvenient, but that area is absolutely necessary to our troops.
