The edges of the Flinders Highway are breaking up in places due to the rain & many mining originated road trains. I'd like $10 for each one that travels to & from Townsville! Stay on channel 40 as in areas where there are "hills", windy narrow sections, bridges, they will give warning calls eg "Road train heading E-W at Warrego Ck".
They mostly sit on 80 or 90kph but those carrying cattle could be doing 100kph. In most sections, you do not have to get off the road if a road train is approaching - just stay on your side of the white line.
I blew a relatively new tyre 10kms east of Hughenden a couple of weeks ago - the only things I can put it down to was I had 50psi in it (max pressure) & the road was broken up just before the incident.
As we only went to Winton, I'd suggest the highway to Mt Isa is in similar condition - they had LOTSA rain out there in February. The railway line is now open - as to how much traffic is being carried on it, I don't know. You'd have to check with police stations or our famous phone number 139040.
Unless you are on "full blown" Telstra, mobile phones on other carriers only work in the towns. And yes, it's pleasing to see lots of green everywhere.
Hi, wondering if the road from Emerald to Cloncurry through Longreach is all bitumen and open right now?
Also Mt Isa to Julia Creek to Hughenden to Townsville.
