Hi all again, has anyone out there been to Cape Tribulation.. if so what is the road in like, and will I be able to tow a 21'6" off-road van there, also the camp ground (is there one) and what's it like, power, water, amenities etc.. is there a shop for supply's there... any info would be very helpful..

Hi you can take your van on the punt across the daintree river and there is a bush camp nearby with power and water I would not go any further with avan as there are creek crossings and very steep dirt roads on the trib track the first part of trib track is sealed when we went we camped at daintree caravan park it has tavern supplies and not to far away from cape trip hope this helps

is there much too see up there? Havent found to much on it. Going from cooktown to cairns the scienic way.

Your first reply is a little garbled. The road to Cape Tribulation is OK for a caravan. You will not strike any creek crossings until you pass Cato Trib. There is a caravan park there - Safari Lodge - There are a couple of other camping areas there with showers but I will let you get yourself a copy of WikiCamps and find out what they are like by yourself (only $8.)
I'm not sure of the supply of groceries but there is plenty of fast food.
The place is worth a few days to a week up there. You can take a long day trip to Cooktown from there to see if it is worth taking the long way around with your van for a week or so there.

In the dry season, even so it can get a bit wet there. We passed through there in mid July on a tour and our stop was wiped out with heavy rain.

Its nice but personally I think that it is not as good as promoted as its much like many coastal rainforest areas, it is essentially a walking exploration area and unless you are fit want to do a lot of foot slogging, which is well worth the effort, a couple of days parked up at the Cape is enough, that said, it is a lot better place to beholed up in than plenty of others.

Cape Trib Camping has powered sites $22 pppn. Unpowered $17 pppn The road is sealed to Cape Trib but can be narrow in places. Last did the drive with an offroad camper trailer July 2016.
I'm sure it can be done with a van, if you have a good tow vehicle.
As an aside, I worked on the development of the road beyond Cape Trib to the Bloomfield River in 1984. If you have a 4WD it is a interesting drive with steep climbs and water crossings.

I have been looking at youtube to get an idea of what its like but there is not much. Nice accommodation, nice beaches that no one is on, not much bush walking tracks. Not sure what the attraction is? Is there better places around the area(down the road) that I would be better off with the family.

Mixo, The country up there is different to what you get elsewhere. There are small tea and coffee farms that are worth sampling their wares. Even if you are not a walker it is interesting country to explore. As you have a family in tow you should visit the Daintree Discovery Center.
