We stayed at the first park on the RHS as you drive into Coober Pedy.
It's quiet and quite clean and tidy and secure.
Just checked Google Maps and it's called Stuart Range Outback Resort it's a Big 4 which I didn't remember as we would normally avoid them.
We had to pay to fill our water tanks which is not all that unusual in an area where the town has to purify it's own water.
However the water was perfect tasting.
When we head that way again we would definately stay there again.
Mala has a shop and fuel, power and toilet/showers no luxuries but good for one night.
Keith.

If free camping,,, Marryat Creek,,, 25-30 km South of NT/SA border. Small area OR camp on Northern side of river.

Hi Toeknee and Cheza,
Marla is fine, you will fill up there anyway, Kulgera is a bit rough but call in and see the pub, which is first and last one in NT, depending on which way you are going.
Coober Pedy, we stayed at the Oasis on the way up, never again, and Opal Inn Hotel/Caravan park, very good.....meals and close to town, water station across the road, $1 for 100 litres from memory.
Like Sparkster said, we avoid Big 4, though it looked ok.
Desert Oaks rest area about 30k north of Erldunda is a good free camp and Lake Hart 30k north of Pimba is a great free camp as well.

I agree, Lake Hart is a good spot, however you do need to get there early, by about 5PM its usually packed.
