A friend pulled into a free camp one night where a large group of vans had set up in a group. My friend commented how lucky they were to be camped in a group given the number of vans in the camp. One camper replied that they all travel at their own pace but arrange to meet up each night. First person in sets up some fake white roses: sheets of loo paper with a blob of vegemite on it. This is almost guaranteed to reserved a spot. As each van arrives, they pick up the white rose.

After reading the OP I would put some gloves on, get my pickerupera and pick it all up and park there. Bugga 'em. Any wonder GN's get a bad name caused by 'some' like that.
OH! I'm a happy little Vegemite.
I don't have it for lunch and tea but do like it on toast for breakfast.
Keep Safe on the roads and out there.

It's interesting, my wife and I have noticed and commented to others that in recent years, where groups of two and more are travelling together it is often the case that the 'group' often keep to themselves.
To the extent that when I've tried to strike up a conversation with one of the 'group' the conversation is shut down very quickly and ignorantly by a third person.
After noticing this I have tried on more than one occasion to strike up this type of conversation and Bingo, the same has happened.
I think it's also the reason that some 'vanners don't appear to wave any more.
Just my experience after many years of caravanning, I'm sure they would deny it but ......just might be coincidence?
Having said that we did enjoy the white roses yarn and promise not to interfere with them if we see them in future. .

Totally agree. If we had been driving for hours and needed to rest and could not Because it was supposedly reserved I would be pretty annoyed. As far as i am concerned, first in, best dressed.

I wonder what will happen now that their secret is out. maybe someone will put some roses out that are different to theirs just to put them off their game

Sparkster.
Came across similar where a group of people travelling together who just don't / won't talk to outsiders. Very annoying.
I don't wave a lot now. Drivers in vehicles with illegal dark tints on the front side windows cannot be seen thru the front window. No light falling on them. Hence I have no idea whether I am being waved to so I don't have back when I cannot see the driver.

I do not think that I would be popular with that crowd
I would be picking up their White Roses, with my pick up stick, if I was staying overnight, in that free camp
Being a bit simple minded, I do not worry about looking to see if it real, or imitation rubbish
