Dancing with the stars , what stars? Is it me , or am I the only one who thinks that this show is the biggest garbage on TV. Years ago , I think it was nice to watch , and then they were dancing and fully dressed. And we had Adam and Eve dancing , not Adam and Steve ( i get most likely shot down now . but so what ) ,cheers
I have better things to do with my time on this planet........Cheers

What about those appalling reality shows. There are those cooking shows, renovation shows, dating shows and appalling talent shows. They all have those dopey women with trout lips whose only line of speech is "Oh my God".
Except for the news and the sport I have given up on television. It would seem that no one can speak without waving their hands about as if they are about to take off or conduct an orchestra.

The reality shows are just plain embarrassing. How can people put themselves through such ridicule (big egos?) And they are not real. Have a friend who did all the carpentry work in the background on one the the home improvement shows. 30 seconds to go and we still have bits & pieces missing ! Crap. It was all sensation for TV. The missing bits were always on a truck outside and had been for hours, if not days.

LLD you say how can people put themselves to such ridicule, I know what you mean, it seems the more they embarrass themselves the better they have a chance of becomming Celebrities. From Big Brother we got Fitzy who carried on like a moron, today he is a television show host. Chrissy Swan who was on Big Brother also a television celebrity now. Ash Pollard from MKR now hosts a show where she travels the world in the height of luxury, and the list can go on and on where these people began on reality shows, and the sillier they were the more they had a chance in becoming celebrities which eventually they did. Take care.....Kisha

Sadly I think it is a reflexion on the society we live in today, and, no I watch none of these "cheap" crappy shows.
Go figger, they must rate enough to keep on producing them!

Have to agree with most comments.
My better half is a dance tragic, she wont watch Dancing with weirdo's.
We watch very little TV news now, even the ABC has gone to the dogs.
Reruns, constant barrage.
Quite common to have a dozen ads in a row, a few mins of program chucked in, then another series of ads, if we find anything worth watching on commercial TV we record it then watch later and skip the ads.
Free to air TV is on life support, I suspect it will be gone in its present form within 10 years.
I suspect it wont be long and all major sporting events including the football AFL and rugby will go to pay TV.
Like the " trout lips whose only line of speech is "Oh my God" comment DMaxer, articulate lot ain't they?

Pre her television, I only saw Chrissy Swan in the promotional ads for Big Brother but I thought she was already a talent and appeared to be able to go on to do better things.
One of the music show winners busks in front of our local Aldi. Good musician, not much talent for the big world, unlike Guy Sebastian.
Know a few people who have been asked to do the music shows but do not want to be criticised by some pompous judge.
Worked with a guy who was obsessed about getting on a reality show. His obsession ultimately cost him his day job.
As noted above between "Oh my God" and bleeps, not a lot of intelligent dialogue.

Mmmmm, I wasn't going o say anything but why not.
I watched Dancing With The Stars on the first elimination night and didn't enjoy it at all. Sad really as Grant Denyer is good but only as good as the show allows him. DWTS looks like going to be a flop for him sadly.
That all said, Courtney Act is a great star really and probably earns more in a day than you or I ever did in a month so good to luck to her/him. I understand about Gays and Transvestites but when they can say "I will be a boy today" then say "I will be a girl today" sorry but I'm confused then.
Another one that has a great name in this country and overseas is 'Carlotta' He is a she now and has been for many years and made many $$$$$$$ with her act. I saw her when she was in 'Les Girls' many moons back. Carlotta is a great entertainer.
like all TV shows now we all have a remote, if we don't like it, don't tune in. Not much to watch these days on the old box anyway. I tend to watch more Netflix and catch up TV so I can fast forward through adds.

The budget for the ABC in 2018-19 was 1.45 billion dollars, that's approx $600 each for every man woman and child in Australia, funded by tax payers, we pay dearly for it.

Speaking at the ABCs inaugural Annual Public Meeting, at which the broadcaster outlined plans for its future, Higgins said the ABC produced 50 Australian programs, including 24 drama series, for the same price Netflix spent on two series of House of Cards.
Back in 1987, your ABC famously cost each Australian eight cents a day. In 1987 dollar terms we now cost each Australian just four cents a day. In other words, our per capita funding has halved in real terms, Higgins said.
Each year the ABC receives $1 billion in public funding. Whilst on face value, this is a lot of money, the fact is our funding has declined by 28% in real terms since the mid 1980s. In the last five years alone, it has declined by more than $200 million.
A decade ago, federal budget figures put ABC funding at 14 cents per person.

Although we mainly watch ABC Channels there are occasional good Doco's on the Commercial Channels. With all the mathematicians on here, don't forget to factor in the Overseas viewers and expats watching Freeview through their computers.
