I got that also, ball weight is very important but at $400 there are other methods to get reliable figures.
I don't tow a van without establishing all the necessary weights by weighbridge so when I have established the ball weight by weighbridge I compare it with the $70 ball weight scale which usually is the same or very close to the weighbridge.
As an ongoing principle I use the ball weight scales as a very good indication.
Works for me.

A bit over priced.
I weigh our combination few days before leaving on a tour at $25 or $35 for a authorised weighbridge ticket at the most trice a year. It would take a lot to get that amount back to justify the purchase of one.
I must omit it would be a nice bit of kit to have from starting out, its a bit late now.

Agree with Craig1. If they are going to demonstrate the product, they should at least tighten the towball correctly. Unless there is a reason, which I doubt. A correctly tightened towball is mandatory for safe towing.

my tongue is up the other way, so this would be the lowest point on my tow hitch, so probably woudln't work for me.
I Borrowed one of those pole type ones from a mate's mate to check mine.
I think they're only around the 100buck mark.
For how rarely I'd used it, I can't see $400 value in it.

For those worried about the spring washer have another look he slips a spacer on the bolt up against the washer the gauge part then tightens up against the spacer in order for the gauge to operate .
I spoke to a private weigh ridge operator last year when a caravan drove in to check his towball weight nice chap but he had no idea what a GVM or GCM was but some how new he should know what his towball weight was, the operator said this was quit common , some times twice a week he would come across this level of knowledge from caravan drivers looking to weigh their van.
Well I said at least its a start , yes he said but I do sometimes get a bit frustrated trying to explain how it all works .
Yet another reason a seperate licence endorsement is required to tow a trailer of any size .
