Hi Guys, I am seeking some advice. I would like to upgrade my tow truck
to Isuzu NNR 45-150 Crew Cab 4x2 or Fuso 515 City Crew Cab MWB 6 sp. AMT 4x2 or
Hino 300 Series Crew Cab 4x2 to tow our new 3.0T caravan.
Any thoughts are really appreciate: like fuel consumption, ATM or manual ? etc I know a light
truck will not be so compfy like Ranger, D-max etc. dosent matter. I the moment a 4x2 will be better
for me than a 4x4. Cheers and save travel Franky

We looked at them all and went with the Fuso Canter 515. It has coil over front suspension which is a bit softer than leaf spring .
Towing a Nova Pride at 3470kg using the airhitch and it is lovely.

Hi BrainR, thanks so much for your mail, very nice to hear there is some out with
the same "idea". Can I ask you a couple of more questions?
What is you load on the tray if you tow your caravan? What is the fuel consumtion?
Do you have a AMT if so did you install a AMT oil radiator? You are happy with 4x2 ?
Do you have a problem to climb up a hill? Possible to get a picture even over a PM?
Thanks in advance Franky

Hey Frankie,
Got the 6 speed auto and lock in 5th at about 95kph. Saves the jumping from 5 to 6 to 5.
Very happy with the performance. Tools, fishing gear, two kayaks, two electric bikes, 160ltr spare water tank, annexes and matting and still have 450kg to play with. I work for DoT so abide by the regs and this was the best way.
Fuel economy fully loaded is around 20ltr per 100ks. But as we are on a never ending trip are not concerned. Without the van and sundry stuff we get about 11ltr per 100k.

No oil cooler as its not really working.
Did get a Stratos seat for the passenger as the bench is hard.
Dual rear wheel will get you a lot of places. Used to farming with duallys.
Will send a pic later.

Hi BrianR, thanks so much for you quick honest answer!!!
Looking forward to see your pictures and I am pretty
sure I will have some more questions. Will hope I bother
Hi Brain, I know now, I am on the right way, no problems with GVM;GCM or ball weight
like the most other rigs. My private opinion! You rig looks absolute perfect !!!! Sorry a couple
of more questions:
- do you know about a Facebook group like "Fuso 515 camping" etc. couldnt find nothing in the sozial media jungle ?
- what for a road site assitant do you use, just in case you get a problem?
- your tray is the standard Fuso tray or custom made, how much the the overhang on both sides left and right ?
- your rear-view mirror are the original ones ?
- you installed a Stratos pessenger seat, what did you with the gab between driver and passenger seat (former 3. seat) ?
- where is your 160l water tank ?
- did you install a second diesle tank ?
- did you bought the extendend Fuso 7 years warranty ?
Sorry, Brain question over question, will hope your are not complete up set,
will not bother you ?
Thanks so much Franky

Hi Franky
No group i know of,
Usu Mitsubishi Canter service,
Tray is custom at body width so fits into a car bay. 3600 long,
Standard mirrors give me a good view,
Storage space between the seats and a cover for the cat,
Water is between boxes in centre and thirty ltr diesal under tray,
Standard warranty suited us.
Would buy the same again no hesitation..
Cheers Brian
This means that if your tug has a GVM of 6.5T (for example) you can not tow 3T with a 50mm ball and you will need to choose a different coupling.

The truck being discussed here is 4500gvm so the 50mm tow ball is acceptable.

The OP was open to suggestions. P-n-M's link will direct him to staying with trucks under 4,500 kg GVM and not look bigger. Its a good thing to remember for others as well. Thanks Peter.

Hi Brian, thanks so much for all of your support!
I really appreciate!
Wish you all the best!
Thanks Frank
Be aware that the tow capacity of 50mm ball couplings is de-rated if the tow vehicle has a GVM greater than 5T.
