Heading west from Sunshine coast to join the New England then head down to cut across to Newcastle. Haven't caravanned that way and wanting some good places to camp and see. Any suggestions please.

Glen innes showground, Armidale SG, Chaffey Dam.
You don't give much info e.g. are caravanning, tenting etc.

we are coming down from Redcliffe to Newcastle via New England Hwy , stopped at Alstonville Showgrounds , then Deepwater where you can free camp at the back of the Longhorn Bar ( best BIG pizza ) and very friendly hosts. We have been to Guyra CP for the last week , planned only 2 days but it very nice and cool here so stay longer and only $25 per night powered . Plenty to see around here, 1/2 day or full day trips and people are friendly. Will leave in the next couple of days on our way to Newcastle.
Happy travel .

Plenty of free camps on that highway or just of it just look on Wikicamps if you have it if you don't get it. It will save a lot of coin

Lots of good pub camps for patrons of the hotels too. A meal or a drink can get you a spot or at some there is power and amenities for a small fee. Lots more info here so join up for free.
