I've spent some time reading through a lot of posts, from when the thread was first started until this year and it appears that a lot of people have dropped out.
There appeared to be a real warmth and interaction in the early days - along with a bit of biffo as always happens - but now days few people seem to post what they're up to.
Just wondering if people are posting elsewhere or not needing to stay in touch.

Well I'm here :)
And in a couple of weeks I'll be a fully paid up member of the homeless nomads club. However I'll spend most of my time in out of the way bush areas without internet access. I'll still post here from time-to-time but nowhere near as frequently as currently - that should please some :)
Staying in touch:
Good point. Most of us need, seek, contact with others and for many the internet has been a wonderful avenue for such connection. Most of my socialising is via Amateur Radio and I have made many *good* friends via that medium and, best of all, one may turn them off! :) Joking aside I really commend Amateur Radio to nomads it is, literally, a life-line.

I'm still kicking, or rolling, or whatever, although having a small break and spending Christmas/New Year with family before heading back into the playground. I've also noticed a drop-off among the number of solos over the past year or two - I know of several who are frequent posters on Facebook so maybe some of those who were active here a while ago have drifted to FB and other social media. I think there's still plenty of us out there.

Hi Mike and I do envy you having already shifted your stuff, I'm at the very beginning of the process and it's going to take a good while to get everything sorted.
I hope you do pop in when able as I'm always interested to see what others are up to living life on the road, especially those doing it full time. Can I ask the general direction you are headed?
All the best with your new life.

Hi Joe, good to meet you and hear you're still rolling along:) I don't do FB so no doubt missing out on a few people there. I've joined CMCA as I want all the advice I can get and really enjoy reading what people are up to.
Have a wonderful break with the family and hopefully hear from you in the future.

I'm still kicking Lily but tend to hang out in the other sections of this great forum. I also post a monthly update of my shenanigans (spelling) for the previous month and you will find it/them in the 'Travel Blogs By Members' section.
Keep Safe on the roads and out there.

I think many have gone over to FB as there are so many caravan/camping/solo/Motorhome groups with thousands of active members so there is much more interaction.
I regularly read here but dont post much and Dougwe, I always enjoy reading your monthly updates.

I always look out for your posts Dougwe. Love reading what you're up to and how much enthusiasm you have for life on the road. I also read all the other sections although not so much the techies corner being a non techie myself and scared of what I might find that could go wrong
Having read back through the many posts I see that the solo section has gone through various stages with people posting lots and then a very quiet time, noted by others.
All the best and look forward to your future posts.

Hi Chris and thanks for chiming in. No doubt you are right about FB. Trouble is I much prefer this type of forum so am no doubt missing out.
I've looked into joining the CMCA solo forum. Anyone have experience with the site?

The "stuff" has been a minor nightmare. I strongly advise you commence "de-stuffing" as early as possible and be ruthless. It's hard I know (emotional attachments to things) but force yourself.
Direction wise: I'm going to stay in Victoria for a few months at least, I'll see the summer through from east Gippsland then maybe head into the Golden Triangle for late autumn and perhaps wander north in the winter or I may instead head to western Vic for winter, no plans at this stage.

The CMCA is an excellent organisation, however I dont belong to the Solo part of it. For those that would like to though, there seems to be many chapters and events to attend.

I am excellent at tossing 'stuff', perhaps too enthusiastic at times. But as you say, there's lots of sentimental stuff that I never use but would like to see go to a good home. That said, if it doesn't, it doesn't. I suspect even Vinnies etc are overloaded with preloved tea sets, silver ware, furniture etc that have been handed down the line. I am disturbed at the amount of waste there is these days.
I'll have to check out the Victoria map to see where you are referring to. The ideal summer for me would be near some clear running water if not a beach. Not likely to happen where I live.

I've read good reports so will be joining. My only hesitation was that the forum is posted on Facebook and I really don't like that style. Wish they had the same format as the main CMCA site. Will just have to see how it goes.

Hello Anne,
I'm still around, a solo, occasional nomad. I don't much like travelling by myself and so most of my trips, I'm accompanied by friends in their van or I travel on trips organized by the Moreton Bay Caravan Club, a lovely, friendly bunch of vanners with whom I'll be doing a trip to Lake Barambah, January 2019.
On my next planned trip after Barambah, in Feb 2019, I'm travelling solo to Lennox Head and staying in van park there while attending a mate's 70th birthday, 3-day celebration.
After Lennox Head, I'm meeting some vanning friends and we'll haul our vans to one of NSW's beautiful, northern beach sites for a couple of days and then on to Emmaville for some gemstone fossicking for a few days.
I love vanning and exploring this wonderful country but I've yet to knowingly come across fellow Grey Nomads in my travels. I have the logos on my car and van and so far, no one has commented on them.
Merry Xmas and Happy New Year to all of you.
Cheers,
Roy.

I am still here also. Dont use the site so much as I have been house sitting quite a lot, and after 7 years on the road probably am not looking for advise so much these days :) Dont bother with other sites although I did sign up to one - prefer this one ! Often just read the Tech section these days. Will be at New Norcia May - Sept volunteering in the archives! Maybe back on the road next year.

I'm with the CMCA Solo's. I enjoy their rallies. They have this great knack of entertaining themselves and doing it well. You just have to make the effort to mix in and you will find a group who live life and laugh longer. No I'm not a member of a Solo's chapter [ I'm Highway Wanderers].
