Some people are crazy ,sitting outside our van at patonga last night we spotted a young Asian guy, he walked up to the dump point ,which is easily viewed from our van awning, sat on the blue lid ,held the dump point hose down low and started washing his dishes ,cutlery and drinking mug.wifey walked over to him and explained theres better places to wash up in the park this guy had no idea what the dump point is used for, just a convenient point to wash up near his camp...

Yep, we saw some German tourists shoving the dump point hose down into their drinking water bottles to fill them after it had been inside the holding tanks of peoples loos.
Obviously there should be NOT DRINKING WATER signs up near dump points.

I would rather demonstrate some concern for my fellow travellers than rejoice in someone getting sick.
I have had occasion to educate some overseas travellers about the intent of a dump point and to point out the hygiene concerns involved in using a dump point hose to wash dishes or personal items. I have invariably been thanked for the explanation.

So much for universal symbols/signage.
If the water at a dump point is town water (no symbol indicating (NO DRINKING), I'd certainly wipe the hose and fill up a water bottle if I was desperate. Seen people wipe clean the hose and fill up the van where the water is town water. We actually don't use our van water to drink in any case. Just refill bottles where we can with town water or buy bottled if desperate.

Now, funny this topic has started today.
Reason? Well, only just today around 5.30am I noticed a young bloke standing OVER the dump point here at Greens Lake, nth central Vic. He was really using as a 'dump' point. I yelled out at him and he made a quick retreat behind one of the many poota loos set up right next to him.
I noticed on my return from being out he has gone.
Yep, "some people".

May need to be a little more blunt in these areas!
Why is it called a dump point?
A better sign would be "sewerage and soapy water disposal" and have it printed in about ten languages.

On our ''recent'' pleasant stay at Green's no-one seemed to understand that you have to PULL THE LEVER FORWARDS & BACKWARDS to flush away what you've deposited on the stainless steel flap in the Porta-Loos.

The ports-loos at Greens had no water in the tank. Pulling the leaver just didnt work. I was wondering why the empty 2L bottle. Thought someone was untidy until I realised that it was for go get your own flushing water. One loo had a 5L bottle that was 1/2 full. I left both bottles full in each loo after I used them. A few steps to the dump hose sorted it all out.
