I've read about so many places that I've lost count so knowing how far and wide you've all travelled, I'd love to know how you rate your best spots. I'm especially interested in Eastern Australia but all welcome.
Must be pet friendly.

Do have wikicamps? (Cost about $8.00)
If so, go to Filters, Sites types & features,
Scroll down to No Dogs Allowed, tap twice should turn red and display Without No Dogs Allowed
Try other filters you may like......
Another thing to try is type the word Hotel or Showground into Site name box (top right of main map screen) and search
Also wikicamps has a trip planner.......
This is not an add for wikicamps........I just find it useful

Thanks Daryl. I have downloaded wikicamps and will keep investingating.
Actually, it was pretty dumb of me to start this post as anyone who loves their special spot doesn't want to advertise it so others smother the place.

Gday...
Anne, there literally 100s of 'best camping spots' - some free and some low cost.
I suggest any camp that has these attributes, will be in my 'best camp' list -
grassy, mainly flat
in a valley
next to a creek, lake or water feature
hills or mountains within sight or close by
not frequented by too many others
some nice bushwalks from or near the camp spot
some firewood not too far away
a long-drop toilet at minimum
not too close to a road, other than the access road to get to the camp spot
internet/mobile coverage is good to have, but often I prefer there to be none
etc, etc, etc, etc
Once you hit the road you too will find there are 100s that will fall into your 'best camp' list. More than half the enjoyment is finding them along with those that are not quite as 'perfect'.
Surprisingly, your list will quite probably differ from mine.
We are all different, but my favourite sites, are those with a toilet
The reason for this, is that there is less toilet paper, floating around the campsite
My favourite, favourite place, use to be Cliff Head North, near Dongara WA
Wife called it a million dollar view
From my vehicle I could see the Dolphins
Unfortunately this has now been closed off
There is still Cliff Head, and Cliff Head South
But you can not see the Dolphins from the camp site, and have to rely on others who are on the beach, to shout out a warning
My favourite place now would probably be Greens Lake Reserve, south of Rochester VIC, along Midland Highway
Some forum members go there, and they are good company
I do find that no matter what type of, good/bad/indifferent site I am at, once I am asleep, they are all the same

I think mostly its the mood your in.
We have pulled over for an afternoon coffee break, then dinner and stayed the night, moved on after morning tea. Spoke with local people who passed by who left us in good spirits.
Another great spot we had enjoyed we returned to find the local farmer was farming, the river was not running and it was dusty with a strong breeze blowing, not a good spot.
Yes, mood has a lot to do with it.

Here's our best three for this years travels.
Barrier Ranges between Broken Hill & Tibooburra. The white speck in the distance is our camp.
Big Desert Victorian Mallee.
Wyperfeld National Park Victorian Mallee.
Nice 'n quiet.

...How many Free Camping Spots can you think of where you get ""paid"" to stay there?.........I agree re Greens Lake Vic. being the most relaxing and have enjoyed it numerous times.....
HOWEVER For the most fun you can have with your pants on..or off..as no-one round to see.......secluded donga between Laverton and Leonora WA with only a gold prospecting/ detecting mate and our wives within 50 kms..small bush camp fully self contained for a fortnight stretch....and bit of gold virtually at our caravan doorstep.....last photo gives new meaning to having 'gold teeth'...my wife who took the photo, said I was flash as a rat with a gold tooth.........no, I wont provide Co-Ordinates!...except 400/500 kms north of Kalgoorlie, and turn right at Leonora then left into the donga...and watch out for camels.......lol......Hoo Roo

Lake Lascelles at Hopetoun (Vic) is very good. Been there 3 times now. Good facilities and very short walk to town (pub & club, IGA). There is a variety of camping types. The is a donation box as the facilities are either being upgraded or maintained.

We quite enjoyed Indi Bridge right alongside the Upper Murray River; had the place to ourselves.
Great spot if you love looking at the stars, a nice log fire & peace and quiet. Up between Corryong & Khancoban. And there is nice tasty Trout in the river too.

I remember the signposts for Jingellic when we went for a drive around Towong & Tintaldra. Pondered there & Tumbarumba but decided to leave that for another time!
Am wanting to climb Kosciusko again, but the other half is not so keen to do it again. Told her in that case I will climb it myself. Gives me anexcuse to head that way.

Totally agree, stayed at Indi Bridge & Jingellic November last year.
Indi Bridge.
Jingellic, the pub next to the free camp is too tempting!
The Upper Murray area has some fantastic independent camping spots. take your pick from any on this map.

Alan, that would certainly tick most of my boxes.
In your own interest, do NOT tell me where it is
