Hi Nomads, Has anyone got any suggestions on caravan insurance - I just got my renewal quote from CIL with a ridiculous increase - it's gone up around 50% over the last four years yet I have made no claim. I called them to ask for a better deal and was told no chance! Maybe they don't want my business. Any help would be much appreciated. Bula

If you do a search on this site for "Insurance" you will see many threads on the subject. Cheers

Am aware of the search function Vince56 but much of the info is very dated so I was looking for more recent experience. RACQ looks like being the best option - and around 40% cheaper than CIL. B

Hi Bulariver, I started a post on this topic on the 30th October under the heading Insurance Renewal if you scroll down to page 4 you will find it. In short my CIL insurance went up by $300 from last year so I was able to get the same thing from NRMA saving nearly $500 on the CIL quote. I get a 17% discount from NRMA for having multiple policies with them but I also opted to pay an extra $30 to maintain my no claim bonus regardless of the number of claims I might make. Unlike CIL the annexe is included at no extra cost you just have to let them know you have one so that they include it in your policy.
Cheers BB
I believe that NRMA and RACQ insurance are both owned by IAG.

September renewal, after lots of phone calls stay with RACQ. Have multiple policies with them and one large hail damage claim them, excellent results.
It is annoying that every year you got to go though the drama of reringing trying to get better deals but thats the way its done. We have car and caravan on the one date in September as most times over the last 5 years we are at home to check and do the ring around then. We also have a higher then normal excess and that brings the cost down some but thats your choice.

Thanks BB - very useful and other replies, it seems I am not alone in being shocked by the CIL price increase, makes you wonder if they really want to be in business cos they should know that we all talk to each other and compare. B

Best advice is to NOT stay with the same insurance company more than 2 years otherwise they will price gouge you on your renewal premium.
In other words show no loyalty & shop around.
If you're not happy with the renewal amount, ring them, they drop their pants really quick if you mention that you're looking at other options.
We wouldn't insure with a supermarket chain insurance company.

Hi Fellow Nomads
I too was in a quandary regarding my caravan insurance - what a mine field! The biggest issue I had wasn't price, but what was included.
I tried Ken Tame who were really nice, I tried the RAA in Adelaide who were equally as nice nd only a couple of hundred dollars between them.
I took CIL because of their inclusions and if you went off road they covered you, they also gave me 10% OFF THE POLICY PREMIUM as I fitted an electronic stability control
I hope it helps, unfortunately its not always about the price

Hi Nomads
One question for insurance is where you are covered for ie off road/designated road and it appears that it is what your caravan is if you have an off road caravan the insurance will cover off road but if not an off road caravan designated roads only that is Ken Tames policy.
