Winx today won her 4th consequestive W.S. Cox Plate. Whilst the fieldwason I think 9 starters,I guess all she has to do is beat the field.
I rather think that many owners and trainers of horses capable of the Cox Plate distance would have give the race a wide berth. However pretty good money for place getters. 2nd was somewhere around $750.000 and 3rd around $370 give or take a $1.
No bad $$$$ for filling the places.
How prize money in racing has exploded. I can recall back in the 1960the Queensland Sprint race... The Doomben Ten Thousand, was worth a total of $10.000.
Small money compared to the EVERETT, Cox Plate and the Melbourne Cip.
The of course so have the value of everthing else.

Winx is a champion and outstanding mare, one of the best, her opposition is good but is absent of an oustanding horse or near champion, however, you only beat what opposes you and she does that with consumate ease.
And if you are old enough, they dont any better than these 2 Champions, TULLOCH & TODMAN, imho Tulloch as a 3yo was the best horse in the world, in 1957, he donkey licked Prince Darius by 8 lengths under double wraps in the Vic.Derby, bolted the Caulfield Cup in in record time and was odds on and would have bolted the Melbourne Cup in but was withdrawn following a crescendo of critisism from the press and powerfull influences, their attack giving reasons not to run the champion 3yo in the gruelling 2 mile race. the next best 3yo., Prince Darius did run and ran a photo finish neck 2nd, beaten by Straight Draw a good horse in his own right.
unfortunately TULLOCH developed a very serious illness during his break and didnt return to the racetrack until a 5yo and imho and many better judges than me, he lost a minimum of 6 lengths because of the illness and we never got to see his real brilliance again, nevertheless, he wa still rated Australias unchallenged champion stayer.

I have great memories of the Mighty Tullock and of course Todman. Also great Jockeys like George Moore Neville Sellwood & Russel Maddock ( the 3rd Stipendery Steward in Brisane) and what about that famous triple dead heat In the last race on the Saturday before the Tuesday Melbourne Cup. The Hotham Handicap Fighting Force - Pandies Son and Prince Darius. The jockeys were Ron Hutchinson Jack Purtell and I can not recall the third jockey, perhaps it was Bill Williamson. I may have that wrong.
What about trainers.... No. 1 would have to be Tommy Smith and racecallers. Ken Howard ( London to a brick on) Bert Bryant and in Brisbane Vince Curry.
Ah!!!! memories, are what racing is all about.

Another trotter Rip Van Winkle. Used to slay them off huge handicaps
Back to topic though, Winx just does it so easily; one of the most relaxed horses ever. Glad she keeps winning & sticking it up those who keep wanting her to get beaten

I guess that this info tells us how good she is.
I beleive that she could have also won the last two Everest M$10 races.
