Hi Chris....that being the case, perhaps I could suggest that that thread be used by one member who consistently, persistently and perhaps nauseatingly, posts such information on this page? Cheers

Gday...
STRUTH ... even when told to ignore the information if it doesn't apply to you or anything you own, ya still gotta whinge ... how much more can I hold ya bloody hand ??????? Try making ya own bloody decisions ! !
WARNING: this is a recall notice that may have absolutely no bearing on anything you own or use. If the subject heading does not provide a description and information of any product that is one that you own or use, then please ignore this waste of time on my part.

Read the bloody subject of the post ... it will always CLEARLY state the vehicle/s that are involved in the recall. ! ! !
and if you are still too bloody stoopid and don't know what vehicle you own or use and then go and open the bloody thing then you will encounter -
WARNING: this is a recall notice that may have absolutely no bearing on anything you own or use. If the subject heading does not provide a description and information of any product that is one that you own or use, then please ignore this waste of time on my part.
How hard it is? ? ?
Or does it just make ya feel big in the genitals having a useless, unfounded, uninformed dig at people on the forum ?????

May I suggest to those who find the posts annoying, don't read them??????????????? They have clear headings so no excuses.

I don't have an issue with Rocky or anyone else posting a recall notice. I personally haven't needed to use them because the manufacturer has already notified me of impending problems long before they appeared on this forum. That was the case with our Pajero Sport tailgate struts in 2016 and more recently with the Eclipse Cross that we bought last month and the Jeep GC towbar issue that we had when we bought it back in April. I can see if you have been off grid for awhile or don't really have a permanent contact point then the info provided could prove to be useful.
If as Chris suggested there is already an area on here to keep all the recall notices in one place then they would probably be better posted there rather than in the General part of the forum. I am a little surprised that people are getting annoyed as John has been putting the description pretty clearly into the topic line and as far as I'm aware there is no obligation to open them. I personally just ignore recall notices if they have no relevence to me or if I'm already aware of the problem.
Cheers

Instead of starting a poll we could all start playing the new quiz show.......Forum Feud
It doesnt worry me whether anyone decides to provide a link to recalls by manufacturers even if some of them are old and / or repetitive.
Owners receive letters of recall notifications by law but I do take on Belmonts comment of someone may be off the grid however you would really be living a true nomad life if you did not receive a message or email regarding the recall. If you were that nomadic that you dont have phone or email then I would assume that you would not be participating on an Internet forum either.
I get emails and messages from my vehicle dealer even for service intervals these days.
On the other side it makes for some great attention seeking.

I take that as a vote that recall advices via this forum are worthless ... please indicate that in the poll thanks.
OH - jest as a foolish aside on my part ... my brother brought a 2014 Triton extra cab 2nd hand. He was not aware it had a recall for the airbag and the previous owner had not responded to have it remedied. Mitsubishi dealer did not have my brother's name and ownership against that VIN - and therefore made no effort to contact him. Lucky (or unlucky because I wasted my time telling him) I had seen the recall notice.

The more serious the recall, the more media attention they get.
The airbag recall has been covered on most levels of media. The information I saw included, make, model, VIN, etc. but if you saved your brother any grief then I say...well done.
As I said I do not care one way or the other whether you continue to place links to vehicle recalls but where does this stop. Why only vehicles? Maybe we will have another well intending member placing recall links for electrical and whitegoods problems. Now that sounds silly!
I dont care for the poll, I think it is just attention seeking, but each to their own.
All this and it is still a few days to go for the full moon.

Good point John I never even thought about the ramifications of a change in vehicle ownership on recall notices.. as I said I don't have an issue with you posting them but in my opinion they would probably be better off being kept in one location as a referrence (probably as a sub heading under Techies Corner). That's just my opinion so now I am going to drop out of the discussion.

When four of five topics are posted all immediately after one another it pushes all the other topics down the recently active topics list.
Well one may argue that it does not matter but considering that no one really replys or for that matter cares about the recalls then all that action has done is to fill the active topics first page with needless information to most and causes one to search further down the list and sometimes onto the second page to find topics that warrant reading or a reply.
This is probably even worse for anyone that has asked a specific question just immediately before the recalls for the day have been put up.
As I indicated previously I personally dont care whether recall links are posted but even the poll is suggesting that there are many members who just dont want it or like me could not care.
It will be good if the poll results reflect further actions.

And that is a problem with the default behaviour of this forum which gives priority to "time of post" rather than "time of last activity" and is why a separate forum for this stuff would be better.
I don't see why all the emotion; simply request site admin to create a new forum called (say) "Warnings" then people can post recalls, weather warnings, road closures, fire warnings and escaped leopard warnings to their heart's content. Even better, those warnings won't be washed away from or clutter up the "General" forum and the people who seek such information will simply and quickly be able to find it.
Basic logic it seems to me.

Recall notices are issued and posted by the manufacturer, not dealers. Manufacturers source current ownership data from the VIN which is cross referenced with state registration authorities. I bought one of my cars second hand and received a recall notice created in exactly this way. The notice had been issued to the previous owner and neither that owner nor the dealer had notified me, thank goodness the manufacturer followed up after no action had been taken by previous owner to present the car within 6 months of the original notice.

Not all recalls are posted from the manufacturer with info from the State Registration Authorities. My son had a new Ford fitted with Dunlop Tyres that were only being recalled via the dealers. It was not considered a safety recall, just premature wear. We only found out about it when I took his car back to the new car dealer for a service and came home with a new set of tyres. If we'd not taken it back to a Ford dealer for a service, we'd never have known.
Same has applied to other vehicles. Get it back after a service and find that a "Campaign" non-safety related repair has been carried out. Which is a bit of a worry as I tend to take my vehicle to a non-franchised dealer after a few years.

I think there's a difference between a Campaign and a Recall. For my make of car, Campaigns (non-safety matters) are issued as dealer TSB's (Technical Service Bulletins) where the dealer is pre-authorised by the manufacturer to 'fix' something when the car is in for service, or if requested by the owner. Recalls are escalated by direct notification, in my case from the manufacturer. I've never seen a safety related Recall being left up to dealers to notify owners - it may exist, I've just never seen it.
