My wife Kim and I are going to head of and travel the country in January 2020 we have have a Nissan Pathfinder and a Jayco Flamingo Outback both 2010 we will need some work to keep moving but not in any hurry and not nesessarily around the country but in any direction we please.My question is should I speak to people who are doing this face to face or just on forums like this as a little nervous about the big change ?

Talk to everyone both face to face and Forums, then evaluate everything before making YOUR decision. You will get lots of answers from both and you have to decide what would work for you.

Don't be backwards in coming forwards. Do some camping - freebies or paid - and go for a walk around the park. People who have travelled a lot are generally willing to talk about their experiences. Works for us. We've even changed our plans once on the road at the suggestions of fellow travellers. We rarely book more than the day before.

Going back a few years when I was in a similar time-period, I took a $4 bag of chocky frogs with me to break the ice, and went up to other travellers with the casual comment "could I bribe you for some information about ......... " whatever it was I wanted to talk about
It worked a treat and after the first bag was gone I had enough info to eat the second bag myself

WE started off by reading every caravanning mag that the local library had ... hundreds of the bloody things. Then OUR neighbour gave US a couple of years' copies of Caravan World. Then after lots of Caravan Shows & 'Expert' lectures WE had a good idea of what sort of vanning would suit US so off we went & had it built & selected tug capable of pulling it (still got them both after 20 years).
Then WE annoyed everyone who would talk to US in every CP that WE visited on lots of local trips. Picked up a mountain of views & kept the ones that suited US.
WE are still learning after 20years & >200,000km. Though mostly these days focusing on learning about Solar, Grey water, free camping and all that sort of stuff that wasn't an aspect in our early days.
Note my use of the plural. WE & not I! A critical element in the process.

Bounce specific questions off the forum members. If you ask general questions you may not get the replies you require. Use this information to plan a rough itinerary. Then as you travel talk to others, that will provide more up to date info for you to amend your trip.

First off welcome to a VERY good forum !
Often when we've stayed in caravan parks, we have seen adverts stuck on notice boards in the laundry, camp kitchen, games room of people advertising their skills or a vinyl sign on their car, caravan. I recall there is a chap who deals in metal detectors at Clermont - Central Qld (a good gold for signing area).
A lot of women in parks head for the laundry as they may have a bit of washing to do & often it's a source of books, magazines to read as well as having a notice board.
There are organisations (often cattle, sheep stations) that offer work in return for keep - with this drought, I doubt whether there is much spare money available but hopefully that will change.
One of the members here (Dessert Dweller) takes nature photos for station websites.
