Hi all, just received my rego renewal for our Olympic van TARE 1600kgs / GVM 1850kgs $487.00. This is just a rip off and why hasn't something been done about it. In Victoria approx. $65.00 Queensland around $130.00
We do about 5000kms per year and these charges can not justified by the government. Any suggestions on how to get these charges reduced?

They don't need to justify them.
No one cares. Only one in, what, 10,000 people own a caravan.
This is a consequence of democracy when most of the population operate with an "If it doesn't affect me I don't care" attitude.
Try being a firearms owner. When did you last support us?

Macca70 like you I also live in NSW and I am also disgusted with what the state government charges for registration on caravans. The problem is that it doesn,t matter which side of politics is in power once a tax is imposed it will never be removed just like the 3 x 3 levy that they imposed 20 odd years ago. NSW has a larger population than either Vic or Qld yet we have fewer registered RVs - is that because people are registering them over the border ? Probably the case for some but I tend to think others especially self funded retirees are weighing up the ongoing cost of caravan ownership verses taking a different type of yearly holiday and may well be opting for the second one. The NSW government couldnt wait to make a huge deal about how much they were doing to reduce green slip costs by giving people a refund - I was so overwhemed by their generosity that I let them keep the $10 that they said I was entitled to..Don,t feel bad my rego will be a lot more than yours because I believe the weight tax is the main difference between here and the other states and mine is 700kg heavier than yours.
Cheers

I was just reading an article on another caravanning website that NSW have announced that they will be dropping their caravan rego by 40% from November 1 this year does anyone know if this is correct ? Don't worry I just found this ...
Macca70, if you are like a lot of nomad and have a pension card ,in NSW you are entitled to 1 free rego. so if you have the van in your name and you partner has the other vehicle registered in their name all you pay for is 1 green slip!!!
