A massive gold nugget worth at least $110,000 has been uncovered by a prospector in remote Western Australia.The retired man, who does not wish to be named to protect his identity, said he had been combing the same patch in the northern Goldfields with a metal detector for years, but struck it lucky with better technology."When I had finished digging it out, I just thought 'Oh my God'," he said of the find, a 3.23kg specimen containing 68 troy ounces or 2.11kg of gold."It was pretty deep at about 800mm in clay soil, so it took more than two hours of careful digging to get it out."

Hm! Let me make an assumption here.
Combing the same patch for years, let's make that 10 years say.
How many hours a year?
Lets say a week a year at 5 hours a day and having a week end off = 25 hrs. a year.
Therefore 250 hrs. total?
So at worst case he has "earned" $440 an hour. at best case for the 2 hrs. to dig it out = $55,000 an hour. Not too bad eh!
Can see why some folk pay out up to $10,000 for a detector.

Do you really think this lucky, hard working person would be working the same patch for "years" (not sure where the 10 years comes from) and this was his ONLY find?
More likely he has been making good wages working 4 - 5 months a year full time in an environment that he and many other campers love and getting well paid for it.

I think he may have gone back over areas when he upgraded his gear. Go over a patch with a $1,000 detecter and then go over it again with a $10,000 one.
