Hi all new to the site. Heading for the new England area of NSW from Armidale to Tenterfield and this time we plan to use free stay areas. I thought we would ask for suggestions and recommendations in those areas. Howie66.

Here are a few we have stayed at:
Jennings Rest Area at Jennings/Wallangarra (a bit north of Tenterfield) off the main road, quiet area to camp
Hamptons Deepwater Inn (large paddock behind the pub)
Mother of Ducks Lagoon, Guyra
Get hold of Wikicamps or Camps Australia Wide and check out what else is available that may suit you.
have fun

Add Wallangarra Driver Reviver to the list, after the border, left hand side northbound (in addition to Jennings which is on right-hand side before border.)
Beardy Creek Heritage Park rest area about 6-7k north of Glenn Innes, left hand side northbound.

Plenty of places. Our last visit for example, we stopped at apex park Premer, east of Coonabarabran. A few dollars a night honesty box, power, showers and the best little pub with take away or roasts. Love those small towns.
Dunmowin mentioned Guyra. Few years ago we had a camper trailer. Woke up at 2am, ice on the underside of the canvas. Packed up and drove through town when noticed the outside temp gauge on the dash -7 !!!

Yes Eaglemax, BRrr. Guyra is actually the highest town on the New England, so in winter this is something to bear in mind. Having said that, all the the New England area can experience these extreme temperatures in winter

Bolivia Hall is also another spot. Not too far from the highway and great lines of sight when turning off or onto the highway.

There is a site you can check for Pubs that offer overnight "parking"
be aware that pub camps are usually only free to patrons of the hotel eg a drink or a meal or both will usually permit you to stay overnight.
always check at the bar before parking.

Peter, The turnoff to Bolivia Hall is the second on the right after you descent Bolivia Hill travelling north towards Tenterfield. I do not think many people know about it. The hall is visible from the New England Highway.

I can't either, even with dave's directions. What we need is a WikiCamps subscriber who has been there to add it to WikiCamps and make the first comment about the place.
