Gday. My indicator light that goes out once water is heated is buggered. Just hoping someone may know where to get just the piddling little rectangular red light instead of paying $50 for the complete panel. Thanks

We need a lot more information.
Ideally: what voltage and wattage/current is the existing lamp? Is it a LED or filament? What size is it?
Otherwise: What make and exact model is the water heater?
Also, is soldering involved in changing the lamp and, if so, can you do it?

Ok. It is the very common suburban hot water service fitted to many caravans. It has a small white rectangle panel with simple on/off switch beside the rectangle red light which goes off once the water is heated using gas. It has two simple spade connections for the 12volt wiring which connects to it. I have some detailed photos of same but no idea Of how to post those. Panel with on/off switch and red light beside it is $50. The light itself is a complete plastic unit with two spade connections on the back which I was hoping someone has previously bought for a lot less than the whole thing. Thanks

The red light only comes on if the HWS fails to ignite when switched on when using gas.
If your HWS is working properly you shouldn't see the red light.

Heres a picture Shaft.
Answer to your question is you cannot replace the neon lamp. Its soldered inside enclosure, unless you are familiar with neons and soldering.
You should be able to buy the complete indicator. I'll have a look for you.

Yes exactly like mine. But if I can get the light cheaply I'd rather have it than not. Thanks for reply

Shaft you could buy a cheap round 12VDC LED from Super Cheap or one of the others, cut a piece of rigid plastic or thin timber to fit behind the hole. drill a hole in it for the LED and glue it in. Join the 2 wires to the ones on the LED. If your handy that is.

This one would probably suit Shaft.

Have a look at theses as well but they don't have all the info advertised, eg., lamp type

Mine look exactly like the picture,, BUT THE LIGHT COMES ON WHEN TRYING TO LIGHT THE BURNER AND GOES OUT WHEN BURNER IS LIT.
IF you really need the light at all (AS YOU CAN HEAR THE IGNITION LIGHTING AND GAS BURNER RUNNING EASILY) ,,, the whole switch panel is $50 on ebay.
