My van has a ATM of 2750 KG the GTM is 2578 kg, so my question is do you go by the ATM or the GTM?
I thought my understanding was that you went by the ATM which includes the Ball Weight?
I have a 2012 BT 50 which I have had an 2 inch lit kit (Old Man Emu constant 300kg back) front and back the GVM is 3200 KG (plate on BT), so with drawers, fridge, solar panels it sits at 3000 KG (Weigh Bridge yesterday) with the ball weight sitting at 200 kg (van) im pushing the GVM on the BT 50. although the ball weight for the BT 50 is 330k.
Am i right in saying that with the 200 kg ball weight (van) and the GTM (van) I would be over the limit, if I went to the extreme?

Uncle Wombat, Please tell us about the 3000kg for your BT 50. Is that with both you and passenger? Your tow ball weight must be added to the vehicle's GVM. If the 3000 kg is without people in it, you will be overweight. The ATM of your caravan is the total weight, and GTM is on the wheels, so the difference is your tow ball weight. (as per plate) You also have to look at the GCM of your BT50. That is as given by the manufacturer. You seem to have a total of 5950kg. Check your specs.
The problem I see is your 3000kg for the tug.

Thank you for your reply, the 3000 kg is with Wife and myself in BT. When i had the suspension upgrade done I was under the impression it gave you more on the GVM BT 50 which I thought gave me extra 300 kg (no?).
The GCWR for BT 50 is 5950 kg, so I would be pushing it if I went to extreme limits on both Van and BT 50, which I don't wont to do, so will look at keeping Van under the GTM, AND MAYBE TAKING DRAWERS OUT AS A LAST RESORT.

You are pushing right up against the GCM, the gross combination mass for car and van combined, as well which is 6000kgs for the BT50. Your suspension upgrade does not improve the GCM which is fixed by the vehicle manufacturer.

There seems to be a misconception that having suspension upgrade enables you more weight whether or not its 300 kg or 600 kg you still have to go by manufacturer Vehicle plate.

On another note have been told because of the suspension upgrade i don't need the WDH as the BT 50 and Van are level, after measuring

Hi Uncle Wombat,
It will be a good option to lower the weight of your BT50 to safely have the weight of the draw bar on the ball. From your post the ball weight should be between 175 and 200 kg. That will take you to max in/on the BT50.
Your ball weight of 200kg or less should not make a big difference on the level or weight distribution. I would not jump through hoops to get a wdh with that low TB weight.
I have about 260 kg TB weight on my LC 200. I have airbags to reduce the sagging, but use a wdh to lift about 5 to 8 mm. Even without the wdh I am happy.

I had the WDH fitted when we got the van in 2012, just had the caravan serviced and asked them to check the setup with BT and Van, I am not to sure about not towing with out it. You were spot on with TB weight 200 kg.
