Hi all. One out of left field. I got a front tooth removed and had a plate made. I HATE IT !!! I cant afford $6,000 for an implant. Has anybody had a good experience with overseas dentistry ? I have heard bad reports but surely there are good ones out there. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Sorry its not a caravan question. Cheers. Col

Same issue but my missing teeth are not at the front. Hate the plate but I don't wear it. Wouldn't consider overseas. Can you get a bridge? I think that's hooking the teeth either side of the missing one to the replacement. Not sure of costs.
"I digress" is generally used for non-van items.

Hi. A bridge is about $2,000 plus my dentist said that they can come adrift. I suppose super glue may help ! Ha hs

My son in law and his brother both went to Phuket in Thailand and had major dentistry work done including implants, the cost was less than $8000 and the price in Australia was quoted at near $30,000. Ihave to say that their teeth look amazing and after4 years, they are extremely happy.
I must admit, I was skeptical but after seeing their results, My wife and also went there 3 years ago expecting a reasonable amount of work, however, the dentist said, for our age our teeth were in very good condition. he filled only one tooth for my wife and gave them a good clean, he removed 1 of my teeth and said the rest were were in no need of any work.
The total cost was less than $300 and he was so good and honest that I was completely taken aback. Incidentally, the price back home would have been at least 4 times that and we had a weeks holiday as well...I ha e no problem in recomending this service.

Glad it worked out for you Wiz. Col the only thing I can say is be careful. Know a guy who went OS for dental work, he had a complication of some sort think it was some kind of infection, anyway it virtually sent him blind, took a long time to clear up and get his vision back. Know it's a hard call with the unreal cost of dental in Australia, even if you do as we have and do with out to be able to keep private health insurance cover, the gap is still prohibitive. Good luck with it whatever you do.

I had a front tooth knocked out playing hockey as a youth. The only option in those days was a partial denture.
It looked terrible & over the years wore out several other teeth.
In the end I got all of the remaining upper teeth removed & a full upper denture. Much better.
I have no experience with OS Dental work, but a friend who has lived in Thailand for many years reckons that their health services are fantastic. That's a second hand recommendation of 1.
I personally wouldn't have it done OS, but I am rather conservative in those sorts of things. I'd find some way to fund a local implant.

If you like cities, go to Bangkok.
If you like smaller places, go to Chang Mai and get it done
If you want to take a little gamble, go to Phnom Pen.

When I lost a front tooth, many years ago, a part plate was the only option. Eventually was able to have a metal bridge made and that is a huge improvement. I am so used to it that I don't even think about it being there.
Good advice about going direct to a dental technician.

Re The Bridge, supporting teeth must be healthy, make sure the support tooth fillings are 100%. Having a bridge replacing a front tooth may be different than on the side, would find out. What I do Not like re Bridge is you must clean the supporting teeth at the gum line to bottom of the bridge because if you get a cavity there my understanding the bridge needs to be removed.
Implants If you go the implant method I would wait at least 6 months after the front tooth has been removed so that bone can grow back prior to the implant.
There are various methods of implants and specialists only use one method, make sure if you go OS the implant method used is practiced in OZ. On a recent trip to Tassie the Cap on one of my implants came loose, and luckily it came off in my fingers, I think I would have had problems in finding a Tassie specialist to screw the cap down. Reason for the loose cap.... I used an electric tooth brush( I think the are great and do a terrific job) but was told the vibration loosens the cap screw.. in the type of implant that I have. So now do not use electric T. Brushes.
If you go OS not only would I get the Name/address of the organisation I would get the name of the specialist who did the implant on the person who is doing the recommending.

Don't know where you're located, but if any where near Melbourne I can highly recommend a dental tech. in the Eastern suburbs. This guy is brilliant, my wife and I plus another family member all have partials made by him and we've never looked back, his prices are very reasonable. IMO you're better off going direct to a tech. rather than dentist for the prosthetic, dentists charge way over the top and then farm the work out to the techs anyway.

I too use Dental Technicians direct.
Rip offs are not confined to Dentists though. One Technician that I went to convinced me to select a far more expensive metal plate & even charged me/my insurer to replace a tooth that came off about a fortnight after I got the denture.
Happily I have found a great one at MtGravatt who gives excellent, prompt & affordable service.

A dental tech as far as I know makes the crowns and bridges but a Prosthodontist or Maxilliofacial surgeon inserts the dental implant.

Having lived in Bangkok for a number of years I can thoroughly recommend the one use there. Having previously tried some others who were cheaper, I would rather pay the extra and know I am getting the best for the price. The name is WeCare dentist in Ari, Bangkok. I I need the dentist again, I will definitely go there.

last one i got done here was $1200 Cash :) and it lasted 2 day until a tooth broke off it, they repaired it & it broke again a few weeks later, they offered to make me another but i didnt have the time.
Got one made in Cebu last time i was there & very very happy & all for $220 its perfect, going back next week & i will have all my teeth cleaned while i am there
Airfair was $600 & but the time you do all the upgrades on seats etc its $720.00 still way cheaper than here & belive me you wont find anyone as fussy as i am
Problem with Australia is the wages & they need to be high becase everything else is expencive but let leave that for another conversation :)

Colin I have had 10 implants,10 crowns,5 bone grafts on my top jaw,and 5 root canals done in Vietnam, total cost was $12800 plus 2 air fares and a couple of weeks accommodation, that was when our dollar was better than parity with us dollar so today the cost would be some what higher I have had no problems and found the dental clinic i went to was spot on they even have there own ct scanning machine there are a lot of people who give very negative reports on over seas dental work but it seems the work is always on a bloke they know, before i had any work done i did a fair bit of research and i couldnt find any one who had experienced any problems. Take a holiday and have your tooth repaired i am sure you will be happy with the results

Yeah the implants can be quite expensive and may poke a huge hole in your pocket but if you want to have your beautiful smile back then it is one of the best treatments. Obviously you can do some online search to find the most affordable dentists and then make decision accordingly. I recently got one of my teeth implanted by dentist Hermosa Beach and his rates were quite normal.

I got all my teeth ripped out about 12 years ago and have been wearing false teeth since with little if any hassles. I found they took a bit of getting used to but after a few months no problems apart from getting small seeds from raspberries etc stuck under them. Mine are acrylic and really need replacing right now but will cost under $1000 with medical fund co-payment - my wife has porcelain teeth (superseded by acrylic) fitted over 45 years ago and still good.
Dentists don't like false teeth as there is a once only profit in them plus when needing replacement you can go direct to a dental technician.
Bottom line is they can provide a permanent answer to teeth problems.
