The top latch on the entry door of our Avan Ovation often remains open and the door cant be shut, and makes it very difficult to open. I am told that it could be a spring that has broken or fallen off and is now inside the door. I cant see how to take the take the inside of the entrance door off to see if the spring has come off or is broken, and to see if I could repair it myself. I asked one RV repairer, and he thought that the whole door might need replacing ... surely this is not the solution ? Has anyone ever taken the panel off and fixed such a problem .... looking forward to any suggestions..

Is it a Dometic "hourglass" Door?
Ours has been replaced several times because of faulty mechanism.

What is the make and model your door? If we know we may be able to find some repair information for you.

Thanks, its a Hartal door ... [Plastform printed on the plexiglass window]. The door was temporary attached to the van, and a high wind slammed it closed, and I think that was what did it.
Hope you can help.

I did some searches for you but could not find any general door instructions. It seems that Hartal is a manufacturer of locks and produces diffewrent models for the different Pommie van makers. I suggest you look through the following search list (you will note that I use a search engine that does not track you like Google, suggest you give it a go.)
My wife and I are particularly worried about Google, and many years ago we used other search engines. Recently we have noticed that with Google open it seems to listen to what you are saying, as you get related messages after we have discussed, which is particularly worrying. Many thanks, we will use the search engine you have recommended...

What do Avan say about being able to get inside of the door?

Unfortunately Avan after sales support is almost non-existent.
Their Hartal doors & concertina flyscreens are renowned for ****ting themselves.
We're on our 3rd flyscreen door since new 6 years ago.
If you look on Avan forums you'll see lots of owners with door problems.
We have an Avan caravan with a Hartal door.
Avan have known about the problems for many years but still insist on fitting the same rubbish.
Other than that we're pretty happy with our caravan.

Many thanks,
We are generally happy with our motorhome after just travelling around Australia. Of course all vehicles are either built for quality or cost, so we must all decide on this basis. Its very annoying what I consider a quite good value for money van to get such poor after sales service. I contacted them a few months ago asking for dis-assembly information on the REMIS roof vent, and had no success, so I contacted Remis Germany who sent me a full set of part drawings within the hour, so why hasn't Avan have this information ?

Simple, because they don't care. Ask any long term Avan owner.

We also have a problem with the fly wire door, if a gust of wind catchers the outside door and shut it(hold open clips are to weak) it smashers the fly wire door if it is closed, it would appear this system IS NOT FIT FOR PURPOSE.
